We need help immediately!

SQ Rescue has an emergency! We have a Walker hound who just gave birth to 13 puppies! Eleven have survived thus far. Nanny is being boarded at a local vet and does not have room to stretch out to be able to properly nurse. We need a foster home for Nanny and her pups immediately! If able to help please contact Steve at sqrescue@sc.rr.com or call Mary Escue at 803-788-1889. Thanks!

Nanny and her puppies

Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins was first seen by Mary Escue at an abandoned church camp. She was obviously nursing and eventually led a volunteer to her eight beautiful little puppies. Mary P was extremely shy at first and would have nothing to do with us. With food and gentle talk, she began to warm to our volunteer. It was then decided to move this gentle hound and her babies to a safe place. Our vet checked her and the puppies. Mary Poppins was discovered to have a severely broken knee healing improperly. We took her to Surgical Referral and the doctor said Mary P had to have surgery to fuse the knee. Mary Poppins had her surgery Friday, October 23. Mary P left the hospital Monday, October 26th and is currently staying in a foster home. She is doing nicely and is already walking on the leg. We are currently taking applications for her eight VERY cute puppies, which you can see under our adoptable list. If interested email us at sqrescue@sc.rr.com. SQ Rescue needs financial help for Mary Poppins' very expensive surgery. Please chip in and help us. Thank you.

Please Volunteer!

Run errands, take dogs from the kennel to Petsmart on adoption days, walk dogs during adoption day, etc. It would be great if you have a car, station wagon or SUV that is big enough for a crate. Email Steve at SQRescue@sc.rr.com

Foster Homes Needed!

There are many more puppies and adult dogs needing our help. Without foster homes and loving people to care for these dogs, we have to turn away many pets that need help. We supply food and vet care, so you just need to supply a temporary, warm loving safe haven for our furry friends. If you can't foster a dog, maybe you can sponsor one, or make a one time donation.

VELVET, A SPECIAL NEEDS PUPPY

This is Velvet, a special needs puppy who needs a special home. At the age of twelve weeks, she was diagnosed with an illness called Liver Shunt. The symptoms of this illness include “apparent blindness” and depression. Now that Velvet has been diagnosed and put on her daily meds and a special low-protein diet, she is now a normal and very happy puppy with normal eyesight and much energy. Velvet needs a loving, responsible owner who will make sure she gets her meds and special diet daily. The vet who diagnosed her says that there is no reason why she cannot live a normal, healthy life. If you are that special person, please contact Mary at 788-1889 about Velvet.

Who We Are

SQ Rescue is located in Columbia SC. Mary and her husband, Bill Escue, decided to spend their retirement, and much of their income, rescuing dogs off highways, abandoned in the woods and from abusive homes. Whether starving, injured, or abandoned, Mary and Bill work tirelessly to find homes for these precious dogs.

SQ Rescue is a charitable organization that has been in operation since 1980 under the direction of Mary Key Escue. She works with each rescue, taking them to the vet and arranging foster homes. We do not put any animals to sleep. If surgery is needed, we follow through with our team of specialists here in Columbia to include an Ophthalmologist, Orthopedist, Dermatologist and Internist. This can put a great strain on a small rescue, but Mrs. Escue seems to always pull each needy animal through and find them a forever home.

Adopting a friend

The adoption fee for most dogs is $100 to $200. It includes spaying or neutering and veterinarian care (unless otherwise noted). These pets will be up to date on shots and are microchipped prior to adoption. If you are interested in a pet, please email SQRescue@sc.rr.com or phone (803) 788-1889.
