Angel’s owners moved and left her to fend for herself. She was pregnant and had her babies all alone and took care of them. She made friends with a dog that lived across the lake; he would bring her over to have his owner feed her. She would crawl out, under her fenced yard and go across the lake each day, so she rubbed off some of her fur on her sides. Well after the puppies were old enough to eat, she brought each puppy across the lake one at a time to live in the man’s yard. So he called SQ Rescue and told us her story and now we have her living with her babies at our kennel. Her babies are being adopted they are all so very sweet. We would like to try and raise some funds to help offset the cost of caring for Angel and her babies. Angel will also need to be spayed and have a heartworm treatment once the babies are adopted.
We are in need of a volunteer to run errands to and from vets and boarding facilities. We would prefer a person with a car, station wagon or SUV that is big enough for a crate. Email Karen at SQRescue@sc.rr.com

Cagney is a darling little Red Tick Hound pup! He came to us with his sister Lacy about two months ago. After a month we noticed that he was having problems seeing, the veterinary eye specialist confirmed that the retina was detached in both eyes, and that he is blind. Cagney had been dependant on his sister Lacy to get him around and take care of him. She is not the nursing kind and gets irritated with him following her around, she is a fun time girl and isn’t very compassionate towards him. Cagney is neutered, 4 months old and needs a home desperately, with a caring dog to follow around. He is very active and playful, even though he is blind.
How you can help???
There are many more puppies and adult dogs needing our help. Without foster homes and loving people to help us care for these dogs, we have to turn away many pets that we would love to help. Could you find it in your heart to be a foster parent? We supply food, medical care, and you just need to supply a temporary, warm loving safe haven for our furry friends. If you can't foster a dog, maybe you would like to sponsor one, or make a one time donation!
We are in desperate need of...
We are in need of any new or used dog kennels, blankets, and quilts. We can give you a tax receipt for your donation. Email Karen at SQRescue@sc.rr.comThank you so much for your generosity.
Who We Are
This is Bernie one of our abused and rescued dogs!
SQ Rescue is located in Columbia SC. Mary and her husband, Bill Escue have decided to spend their retirement, and much of their income, on rescuing dogs off highways, abandoned in the woods and from abusive homes. Whether starving, burned, or abandoned because of births of new children, moves or simply other interests, Mary and Bill work tirelessly to find homes for these deserving dogs.
SQ Rescue is a charitable organization that has been in operation since 1980. This organization is operated almost single handedly by Mrs. Escue. She works personally one on one with each rescue, taking them for veterinarian care and arranging foster homes. We do not put any animals to sleep. If a surgery is needed, we follow through with our team of specialists here in Columbia to include an Ophthalmologist, Orthopedic, Dermatologist and Internist. This can put a great strain on a small rescue, but Mrs. Escue seems to always pull each needy animal through and find them a forever home.
Adopting a friend
The adoption fee for most dogs and puppies is $150 to $200. If you are interested in a pet, please email SQRescue@sc.rr.com or phone Mrs. Escue here in Columbia, SC at (803) 788-1889. Each pet is spayed or neutered, up to date on all veterinarian care (unless otherwise noted), which may include courtesy listings of pets that are in local "kill" shelters that we are trying to help place. These pets will be updated on all of their shots and spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

Each of our puppies and dogs have been brought up to date on all
shots, spayed or neutered, are heartworm negative, intestinal worm
negative and are deemed healthy and socialized. They come with a
complete set of veterinary records. A trial period is offered with
an approved application. We feel it is very important to do this
for you to determine if this pet will be congenial in your home
and with your pet situation. In our contract it is noted that if
it ANY time you can no longer care for the pet or other
circumstances arise, that the pet can and will be returned to us
for re-homing.
