Come Visit Us!
Leave Bamberg heading south on Highway 301. Where the road forks (opposite Zeigler Chevrolet), take the left fork --Highway 601 towards Ehrhardt. Travel 1.2 miles south. You will pass the County Public Works garage and a dumpster location. Turn left on Slow Pitch Road, a dirt road that passes along the side of the baseball field. Take the first left, along the back side of the ball field. The Shelter's office is in the white trailer in front of the yellow building on the left.
The Mary Ann Morris Animal Society, Inc. (MAMAS) is an organization dedicated to procuring the humane treatment of animals in our rural area. Only one of the five towns within our county has an animal control officer. We are not able to pick up animals; those who find strays must bring them to us.
Bamberg County Council supplies some of our funding, but we are dependant upon donations from members, volunteers and benefactors to provide the service we
do for the community and to provide care for the large number of dogs we receive or are able to accept.

Puppy Bowl Did any of you see Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl V on February 1st? If so, you may have seen one of the pups we adopted out back in the fall. Her name is Indigo and she is now a star!!! However, she did get called for a foul...I think it was for intentional grounding or something like that. She is a gorgeous little Weim mix pup and we knew she was bound for greatness when we first saw her!
Puppy Bowl V Starting Line-up:
Player #13 --Indigo
So, now we
have a dog who's been in Puppy Bowl, another who is the
youngest to ever be picked for the Canine Companion Program at
Cornell University, another who has gotten his Canine Good
Citizen Award, a dog who has become a therapy dog at a nursing
center...all from this little animal shelter in Bamberg,
SC.....THANK YOU ALL!!!
Wanted: Volunteers We are desperate for volunteers. Becoming a volunteer can be a very rewarding experience and again, directly affects the amount of dollars attributed to maintaining the shelter. Volunteer opportunities
include...
Dog Walker - Volunteers should be confident, physically
capable of handling any size animal.
Bubbles & Brushes - Washing our furry friends is always a
treat. They love to be brushed too! Brushes and shampoo is
provided by the shelter.
Transportation - Assist with Transportation of animals to the
veterinarian or pickup donated supplies. (Must have valid SC
Drivers License)
Welcome Wagon - Greet potential adopters, answer telephone,
call adopters to follow up on their experience with their new pet,
etc.
Special Events - Assist with special events and festivals to
promote adoptions at various county locations.
Photographer - Take photos/glamour shots of animals for
PetFinder.com. Bring a friend to help hold our furry friends!
Kennel Care - Help us make MAMAS a comfortable stop on the way
to a loving furever home. Feed & water our animals, clean
kennels, wash blankets & bedding, clean kitty litter boxes,
etc.
We also need organizers to form and lead committees for fund
raising, education, off-site adoptions, rescue transport, and
spearhead projects in these areas.
If you're interested in volunteering, please contact MAMAS at
803-245-7387, email us at mamasshelter@aol.com
OR visit the shelter during our regular hours.
ADOPTIONS
Adopting a friend
MAMAS pets are given parvo-distemper vaccine, a rabies vaccine and
de-worming medicine prior to adoption. All dogs also receive a
bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine upon arrival to the shelter.
As of January 2003, the MAMAS the adoption policy also requires
that animals must be spayed or neutered before they leave the
shelter. Local veterinarians will perform this surgery on shelter
puppies when the animal is at least two months old.
MAMAS will allow animals to leave the shelter intact, provided
the new owner is agrees to have the animal spayed/neutered after
leaving the shelter. These owners are required to leave a $200
deposit, which is refunded when documentation is provided to MAMAS
that the surgery has been performed. Dogs and cats over the age of
six months MUST be altered within one month of their adoption.
Puppies & kittens under the age of 6 months must have the
procedure performed within 2 months of their adoption.
If the surgery is done by one of our vets, the cost is covered in
the adoption fee. We will also be happy to make an appointment, but
post-adoption transportation to/ from the vet is the responsibility
of the new owner. Unfortunately, we can not cover the cost of
the surgery or change our adoption fees if an owner chooses to have
the pet's surgery performed at his/her own vet
Adoption fees
The adoption fee for adult dogs/cats is $50.00 for Bamberg County
residents and $65.00 for non-residents. The adoption fee for puppies
& kittens is $65.00 for Bamberg County residents and $80.00 for
non-residents.
This amount barely covers the fee for sterilizing, so we are
always grateful for additional donations to cover the parvo-distemper
shots, rabies shots, and worming medicine we have given your new
pet.

DONATIONS
Like most animal shelters & humane societies, MAMAS relies
heavily on donations. These donations directly determines how many
animals we can afford to take. MAMAS would like to give every
homeless dog and cat a chance to find his or her loving home but we
are unable to do so without funding to provide adequate care for the
residents while they are with us.
Sponsorships are now available
If you see a pup or kitty that you would like to help, please email
us at mamasshelter@aol.com to find out more! Every little bit helps
