Pet of the Month

I'm Dee Dee!

Our pet of the month introduces herself...

an 8 year old Beagle. I love children and am great with other animals. My health is good and I've already been spayed, so all I really need is a loving home and family to spend the rest of my life with. I'll give back so much love, just come and meet me!

Who We Are

The Grand Strand Humane Society is dedicated to finding loving, responsible homes for every animal in our shelter. Our adoption program includes a staff trained to assist people considering adopting a pet. Our preventive health program for animals in our shelter includes: A general health examination by trained staff; One set of vaccinations; Treatment for internal/external parasites; Heartworm testing for dogs; Feline Leukemia testing for cats and rabies vaccinations. A clean and caring environment to maximize the comfort of each animal; Spaying/Neutering of all adopted pets. Animals requiring additional medical care for specific health problems such as heartworms, mange, or injuries receive veterinary care. We are so proud to have the Claire Chapin Cook Veterinary Hospital here at our shelter. This wonderful opportunity was made possible by a generous grant from The Chapin Foundation. Our hospital caters to those low income individuals and families who otherwise would not be able to afford veterinary care and spaying and neutering their animals. Appointments are available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. If you would like additional information, please call 843-448-9151.

Adopting a friend

Each adopter receives a medical record containing information on their pet's vaccinations and any medical care the animal received while at the shelter. In addition, important pet care literature and instructions will also be provided. Adoption fees are regularly $80.00 per animal. This fee includes the costs for spay/neuter, vaccinations, at least one worming, testing for either heartworm or feline leukemia and rabies vaccination. We do require that all animals are seen by a veterinarian within 5 days of adoption for a complete physical. Please inquire with our adoption counselors about discounted rates for adoptions. We also have a special senior citizens rate of $50.00 as well as a SENIORS FOR SENIORS program for anyone over the age of 60 that adopts an animal over 6 years old, the adoption fee is waived!
