Our Featured Pet...

Christian is an adorable male kitten who is truly a miracle. His mother was a stray cat, and Christian being a normal curious kitten found his way into a laundry room where he got stuck inside a commercial dryer vent. He suffered severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns, but healed with no permanent damage except that he lost the last inch from the tip of his tail. Please see Christian on our adoptable pets list . . . He truly is a "Christmas Miracle"!

News

We formed Sunset Animal Rescue as of July 3, 2008, and since that time have adopted dogs from Maine to Florida. We have accepted dogs through the county of Fairfield Adoption program and beyond. Our rescues are sometimes dogs that others will not take either because of Vet. care needed or with extra care that is necessary to have them ready to go into a home. We have had dogs that have been beaten, abused, and/or starving. Some have had permanent physical and psychological problems. The dogs are kept inside our home at night and in bad weather. Daily they are placed in our 1/2 acre dog play area because some have to learn how to play especially with toys. We group dogs and they are moved around in those groups throughout the day.

Who We Are

We are dedicated life long animal lovers who are all volunteers. There are no paid staff members and donations go to the care and upkeep of our rescue pets. Our main concern is for the rescue dogs and their safety. Sunset Animal Rescue will ask for a great deal of information from any potential adopter in order to find the best home for the life of the pet. Sunset Animal Rescue will always accept the return of any adopted pet should it become necessary because we never want any of our pets to end up in a County Shelter where it may be euthanized. Sunset Animal Rescue will NEVER euthanize a rescue because it has been returned, or is not adopted quickly. Once Sunset Animal Rescue accepts responsibility for an animal, we gladly accept that responsibility for the life of the animal.

Adopting a friend

Anyone interested in adopting one of our pets should contact us and ask for a questionnaire. This allows us to check for references and to help us match the correct pet to each family. Then you may ask for an interview and/or to meet a pet. We do have an adoption contract and a home visit is also required before a potential adopter is approved. Our regular adoption donation for dogs starts at $250.00 which includes their current shots, microchip, and spay/neuter. We have just recently had to increase our adoption donation amounts due to the rising prices of food, medication, and veterinary services including spay and neuters. We do have some dogs and/or cats that may have a higher adoption donation. In this case the adoption donation amount will be noted in the description of the pet. Please also know that your pet will be trained and vet checked. If any problems exist, we are honest and will tell you about them whether they are medical problems or emotional traits. We want you to be pleased with your animal and the adoption process, so that the animal can become a happy well adjusted member of your family.
