Berkeley County PAWS is an organization comprised of dedicated volunteers who provide foster care and adoption for homeless animals and provide resources and events to educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
We are a 501 c 3 (charitable non-profit) animal welfare organization. Donations are tax-deductible and allow us to provide for the needs of our rescued animals and support our spay/neuter program.
NEWS AND SPECIAL EVENTS!
Next adoption day on Feb. 6th and Feb. 13th. Come see us there!

One summer day and not too long ago, I was living day to day, starved and alone.
Then someone took me in, I was lucky to be alive. The next day I had babies - furry, purry, and five.
People came together and provided tender, loving care. We continued to improve - and well we did fare.
My babes grew so fast, into loving homes they did go. Now it's just me - lonely but not alone.
For my rescuers stand by me, loyal and true. They tell me "A home we'll find, a special one just for you."
It is a family I want, to love me forever more. Just as my babes are loved - those five babes that I bore.
So won't you consider me? My love I will prove. Love, a family, and maybe a dog or two - maybe that means you?

We have been looking for a home for Betty for several months. She is a darling cat - very playful and very loving. She loves dogs, but will take a little while to learn to get along with another cat. She was a very good mother to her babies, and she deserves a loving family of her own. Betty has been spayed and microchipped, dewormed, vaccinated, and tested (neg) for feline leukemia and AIDS. She is also up to date on flea control. If you, or anyone you know is interested, please contact Amelia at 813-5102. It would be a wonderful Christmas present for Betty if she found her forever home!

Spaying and neutering helps dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives. It also eliminates or reduces the incidences of a number of health problems that can be very difficult or expensive to treat!
If you can open your heart and home to an animal that needs you, please call: 843-207-PAWS! We need you - the animals need you!
Please note that we have the right to refuse adoption of any of our animals for any reason we feel applicable !
There is no public shelter to visit. Instead, our companion animals are lovingly cared for in one of our approved foster homes where they can more readily adjust to a family/home environment. To see an animal you are interested in, contact the foster home to make an appointment. Foster names and contact numbers are listed in the pet's information on the Pet List page. Cats that are at PETsMART may be seen during store hours. Cats are adopted as INDOOR ONLY pets. PETsMART is located in Azalea Square on N. Main St. in Summerville between Target and Kohl's. "Adoption Days" at PETsMART which include dogs as well as cats are listed under NEWS AND SPECIAL EVENTS when scheduled.
All PAWS pets have been examined by a veterinarian, de-wormed, vaccinated and altered. Dogs are tested for heartworm and treated if positive. Most of our dogs and cats are also Microchipped. Cats are also tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV
An adoption application is required and upon approval a contract must be signed. This is our Application to Adopt a Cat. CAT APPLICATION This is our Application to Adopt a Dog. DOG APPLICATION Please download the appropriate application, print it and fill it out. Then contact the foster home named on the animal's page in our Pet List below. You may review the terms of our contract here
CAT CONTRACTPlease note that cats and kittens adopted from PAWS may not be de-clawed.

Tootie is a very active one-year-old black and white tuxedo. She has been in foster since she was a bottle baby, after being found by the side of the road in a thunderstorm. Tootie’s favorite activities are playing and eating! She never can get enough of either one! For anyone interested in a very playful cat, Tootie would be a wonderful addition to your family.
Because of Tootie’s high energy levels, she would do best in a home without small children. She is very loyal to her foster mom, and she loves to crawl on top of her at night to sleep (and she still sometimes nurses on her foster mom’s blanket). Tootie has been trained to “sit” for her treats, and she is slowing learning how to “stay” and “sit up” for her treats, too.
Tootie has been spayed and microchipped, and is up to date on her vaccinations. She has also tested negative for feline leukemia and AIDS. Following adoption, all adopted cats from BC PAWS must remain indoor only and declawing is prohibited. If you would be interested in meeting Tootie, please contact her foster mom, Amelia, at atuttle@bellsouth.net, or 813-5102.
Tootie is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Charlie really loves to cuddle, is crate trained , very affectionate and get along great with other dogs. My foster family knows I learn very fast and am always willing to please. Also I am playful and need someone to enjoy my love and attention. Having a fenced yard would be great along with lots of love.

We couldn't do it without YOU!
The altering of a companion animal is every pet owner's responsibility to their pet and the community. There is no excuse for not having it done. The procedure is safe and simple and your pet will fully recover in 7 to 10 days. It can be done as early as 3 months of age and will improve your pet's health and behavior. It is the humane way to control the pet population. The tri-county area has two low cost Spay/Neuter Clinics that are available to everyone, the John Ancrum SPCA Spay and Neuter Clinic at the SuperPetz in West Ashley, and the Doc Williams SPCA Spay and Neuter Clinic in Goose Creek.Volunteers are the backbone of this organization. Do you have Scout troop or a group at work or school looking for a community service project? We would welcome your fundraising ideas. We also need people to help solicit donations of goods and services that can be included in fundraising drawings. Your fresh ideas are needed and welcome.
