Who We Are
Mutts-N-More is a 501c3, home-based animal rescue. We are not a shelter. We rescue sick, abandoned, neglected and abused animals of all species, rehabilitate them both physically and emotionally, and then adopt them to loving, lifelong homes. We don't take in owner turn-ins due to space and financial constraints, however, we'll gladly post photos and bios of your pet on our Petfinder page and attempt to find them homes.
We do our adoptions from Petco. Petco is located at 1265 Broad Street In Sumter, zipcode 29150 so you can do a map search. The store is in front of Wal Mart. So come on out and meet a few of the wonderful dogs, puppies, kittens and cats we have available for adoption. Come get to know us and the kids and check out the new Petco store because it's fantastic...they have everything you could want for a pet! And, the people are really nice!
Our Policies...Please read before contacting us. We DO NOT deviate from these policies!
1. Our furry kids are NOT gifts...they are not I-pods or Tonka Toys, so don't adopt from us if you just want a Christmas or birthday "gift" for someone. That's the WRONG reason to adopt!
2. For dog adoptions, all potential adopters must have a fenced yard and live in a safe neighborhood. Some of our dogs require 6-foot high privacy fencing because they can climb.
3. For cat adoptions, all cats must be kept indoors.
4. Since we deliver the animals to their new homes, we can only adopt to South Carolina, southern North Carolina (below Raleigh) and to the Augusta, Georgia area.
5. Some of our dogs and cats have been spayed/neutered, some have not because we can't afford to "fix" them all anymore. As an adopter, you would be required to spay/neuter your new family member after adoption. Adoption fees are adjusted in these instances.
6. We microchip all our furry kids prior to adoption. We maintain the registration for the safety of the animals. Plus, you never have to worry about renewal fees; we take care of that.
7. All our cats are FIV and FeLuke tested if old enough.
8. You must come here to visit the dog or cat you are interested in or meet them at an adoption event and then if you decide to adopt, we deliver them to you. This is for their safety and it eases their transition to their new homes. We prefer to do adoptions from Petco, but occasionally we can schedule a visitation at our home after 3 P.M. on some weekends.
9. Adopters must be at least 25 years old, be mature and responsible, and able to financially care for the dog or cat they adopt.
10. THE COOL THING ABOUT US is that if for any reason, you cannot keep the dog/cat, whether it's an hour after adoption or sixteen years down the road, they are required to come back to us...Just call and we'll haul, no problem!
Special Needs kid!
MEET JUSTIN TYME!
Justin Tyme is a gorgeous 1 1/2 old PitBull. His coloring is white with brindling and he has the prettiest, deep brown eyes. He's a stunning boy! Justin is a very loving boy who is loyal, highly intelligent and obedient. He loves to sleep in the bed and he adores baths. He's also the hugest hugger! Unfortunately, he's heartworm positive, so he needs a home who can either put him on monthly Ivermectin to treat him slowly or put him through the treatment from the vets.
Adoption Fees
$60 for dogs
$30 for cats
We offer an Adopt-A-Buddy program where you can adopt two furry friends and only pay one adoption fee! This a great program, so ask us how this works!
ABOUT HEARTWORM: It is estimated that 97% of the dogs in the south have heartworm. This is NOT the kiss of death for the dog. There are options available besides the painful and dangerous Immiticide treatment. Even if a dog has been through the treatment, they can still get heartworm again. Also, just because a test shows them to be heartworm negative, doesn't mean that they are. The test won't pick up heartworms in the incubation stage.
Most of our dogs are not tested for heartworm prior to adoption because we cannot afford to have them tested. We keep our dogs on monthly doses of Ivermectin for heartworm treatment and prevention. If you adopt a dog from us, we always encourage taking the dog to your own veterinarian for a check-up and a heartworm test. Should you find the dog has heartworm, you can either return the dog to us for a full refund of your adoption fee or you can put the dog on monthly doses of HeartGard and have him or her re-checked a year later. Recent scientific research has determined that using the monthly dosage of HeartGard can cure a dog of heartworm within a year, but we have found it can take two to three years, usually.
Once we get on our feet financially, we will be able to have all the dogs and cats spayed/neutered and the dogs heartworm tested prior to adoption. Please be patient with us.
Big News!
Our new website is finally up and running, though I'm still working on it. Check it out at www.mutts-n-more.com.
Adopting a Furry Friend is Easyas 1-2-3!
1. Visit us at an adoption event and meet the dog or cat you are interested in. E-mail us to schedule an appointment if you want to meet us on a weekend we're not at an event.
2. If you choose to adopt, we deliver your new family member to you after getting him/her microchipped and groomed. We find that delivering the dog or cat to their new home makes for a smoother transition for them and it allows us to ensure people are who they say they are, live in a safe neighborhood, and have a fenced yard. These kids' safety and happiness is always first and foremost!
3. As an adoptive parent, you'll receive an adoption package which includes the dog's/cat's medical records, a bag of the dog's/cat's current food, a collar and a leash (for dogs), a toy or two, a bag of treats, and a great DVD on training, nutrition, etc (the DVD is for dog adoptions only), plus anything else I feel like throwing in the goody bag!
DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED!
I still have to figure out how to do PayPal, so until then you can send checks made payable to Mutts-N-More and mailed to P.O. Box 406, Alcolu, SC 29001.I'll send you a receipt for tax purposes.
Monetary donations go toward buying doghouses and more kennels, veterinary bills, quality of life items, etc. We can always use donations of toys and treats for the cats and dogs, towels, zip ties, bungee cords, tarps, food and water bowls, leashes, throw blankets, etc.
In loving memory of:
Hagrid, our grumpy, ornery Newfoundland boy who died of a ruptured spleen in May 2007
Humperdink, our little 9-week old Husky puppy who passed on in December 2007
Super Nova, our 6-month old Setter mix who also passed on in December 2007
Chester, our grumpy old man who died of natural causes on 9 April 2008. He layed down and sprawled out comfortably in the shade to pass over.
Pretzel, our wild kitty who was attacked by dogs over a month ago just passed on 26 February 2009 from kidney failure. We think he had internal injuries from the dog attack. He was wild when we rescued him, but he became docile and very loving within just a couple days. He was a sweet boy who only knew human love for a little over a month before he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
5 April 09: Summer, Dean Martin, Critter: three of Suzie Q's newborn puppies. They just passed on from unknown reasons after only being in this world a few days. You'll always be in our hearts, kids.
May your souls shine as brightly in Heaven as they did here on Earth.
