Mutts-N-More is a 501c3, home-based animal rescue. We are not a shelter. We rescue sick, abandoned, neglected and abused animals of all species, rehabilitate them both physically and emotionally, and then adopt them to loving, lifelong homes. We don't take in owner turn-ins due to space and financial constraints.
WE ARE SHUTTUNG DOWN OUR RESCUE OPERATION! WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY MORE ANIMALS.
We do our adoptions from Petco. Petco is located at 1265 Broad Street In Sumter, zipcode 29150 so you can do a map search. The store is in front of Wal Mart.
PETCO ADOPTION EVENTS:
Our Policies...Please read before contacting us. We DO NOT deviate from these policies!
1. Our furry kids are NOT gifts...they are not I-pods or Tonka Toys, so don't adopt from us if you just want a Christmas or birthday "gift" for someone. That's the WRONG reason to adopt!
2. For dog adoptions, all potential adopters must have a fenced yard and live in a safe neighborhood. Some of our dogs require 6-foot high privacy fencing because they can climb.
3. For cat adoptions, all cats must be kept indoors.
4. Since we deliver the animals to their new homes, we can only adopt to South Carolina, southern North Carolina (below Raleigh) and to the Augusta, Georgia area.
5. Some of our dogs and cats have been spayed/neutered, some have not because we can't afford to "fix" them all anymore. As an adopter, you would be required to spay/neuter your new family member after adoption.
6. Adopters must be at least 25 years old, be mature and responsible, and able to financially care for the dog or cat they adopt.
11. If for any reason you cannot keep the dog/cat, whether it's an hour after adoption or sixteen years down the road, they are required to come back to us...Just call and we'll haul, no problem.
Adoption Fees
$50 for dogs and puppies
$35 for cats and kittens
No adoption fee for special needs animals
No adoption fee for senior citizens over 55 years old
We offer an Adopt-A-Buddy program where you can adopt two furry friends and only pay one adoption fee!
ABOUT HEARTWORM: It is estimated that 97% of the dogs in the south have heartworm. This is NOT the kiss of death for the dog. There are options available besides the painful and dangerous Immiticide treatment. Even if a dog has been through the treatment, they can still get heartworm again. Also, just because a test shows them to be heartworm negative, doesn't mean that they are. The test won't pick up heartworms in the incubation stage.
Most of our dogs are not tested for heartworm prior to adoption because we cannot afford to have them tested. We keep our dogs on monthly doses of Ivermectin for heartworm treatment and prevention. If you adopt a dog from us, we always encourage taking the dog to your own veterinarian for a check-up and a heartworm test. Should you find the dog has heartworm, you can either return the dog to us for a full refund of your adoption fee or you can put the dog on monthly doses of HeartGard and have him or her re-checked a year later. Recent scientific research has determined that using the monthly dosage of HeartGard can cure a dog of heartworm within a year, but we have found it can take two to three years, usually.
DONATIONS ARE ALWAYS APPRECIATED!
