Our Featured Pet...

Mission Statement

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate behaviorally (if necessary) purebred dachshunds from area kill shelters, puppy mills and owner relinquishments. We will also assist responsible dachshund owners whose pet store/backyard breeder purchase has undesirable behavioral tendencies. By means of training ideas and resource materials.

Due to the circumstances from which these dogs have come from, we feel that it is in the best interest of the adopter and dachshund that there be no young children in the house hold.

Who We Are

Ararat’s Doxie Haven is a non-profit South Carolina organization. We are a registered charity under the number 13254.

There are so many dogs looking for homes that are euthanized each and every day just because there is no room for them at shelters. This includes purebreds, like our beloved dachshund. We decided we needed to do something. From there Ararat’s Doxie Haven was created.

Our sole purpose is to ensure each dachshund that comes into our care will be cared for in a loving home environment as a member of our family while waiting for their forever home.

While we would love to help all, we are a small organization run out of our home. We are limited by space and funds to the number of dachshunds that we can take and care for at one time. Since we are no kill, all dachshunds are assured a forever home at Ararat’s Doxie Haven if a suitable forever family does not come along.

By staying small we can ensure that “our” dachshunds receive quality time and care. We feel that this way we are personally familiar with each of the dogs unique personality and can better match them with their forever family.

We are located in upstate South Carolina and being a small organization, we generally adopt to locale residents but can adopt to some one within a reasonable distance. The further the distance, the longer the adoption process will take, for no dog will be placed until a home visit has been done by a person of our choice.

Adoption Process

NOTE--We will not adopted to anyone under the age of 21 years old.

1. Fill out an application completely.

2. We will check vet references.

3. We will check personal references.

4. We will conduct a HOME VISIT.

5. Then a legal and binding contract will be signed by the adopter before the Dachshund will be left in the home. .

Adoption Fees

Puppies up to 1 year $250.00

1 to 3 years $225.00

Over 3 to 7 years $200.00

Over 7 to 12 years $175.00

Over 12 years $125.00

We retain the right to refuse any application.

We often get mutiple applications on the same dachshund and our ultimate goal is to place the dachshund in the situation that is best for them. Ultimately having this goal in mind is also what is best for the family.

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter... The cast offs of human society. The love, hope, fears, dread, sadness and betrayal in their eyes. I was angry, frustrated, sad tears filling my eyes.

"God" I said " This is terrible! Why don't you do something?"

God was silent for a moment, then said, "I have done something, I created you!"

Dog ownership is like a rainbow. Puppies are the joy at one end. Old dogs are the treasure at the other.
