News
It is Kitten Season and there are so many kittens as well as adults that need a home. Please consider adopting one from us.
Who We Are
The Humane Association of the Lowcountry was formed in September, 2005 to enhance the foster care program for animals at the Beaufort County Animal Shelter. Puppies and kittens, as well as adult cats and dogs that are pregnant or lactating, that come to the shelter are placed in foster homes until they are ready to be spayed and neutered and put up for adoption. HAL provides for food, litter, and other supplies and pays for a portion of the medical expense for the foster animals. Adoption fairs are held at the Lady’s Island Feed and Seed on most Saturdays to help the shelter find homes for them. The organization is all-volunteer and all money donated is used for animals in their care.
Adopting a friend
There is a $75.00 to $200.00 adoption fee and it helps us to cover the cost of the spay/neuter surgery, shots, deworming, food and other medical expenses. Check out our Events list to see when you can adopt our animals at one of our Adoption Fairs.
Fostering
Foster families are always needed and it is a great way for parents to teach their children about compassion and responsibility and to experience the joy of kittens and puppies without adding to the pet population. It is also ideal for retirees who travel or the military who have to relocate and don’t want a full time pet. If you are interested in fostering and would like more information please contact us at 843-525-1831.
