Adopting A Friend
Oconee Humane Society (OHS) is available for adoptions and the purchase of Spay/Neuter certificates Monday - Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm.
SNAC Applications are accepted Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri from 10am-4pm.
Cats are a available for $65.
Dogs are available for $75.
This includes the spay/neuter procedure, initial tests and first round of shots. For more detail, please speak with a volunteer at the shelter.
Who We Are
The Oconee Humane Society addresses animal welfare issues in Oconee County, South Carolina. Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals by helping provide shelter for unwanted animals, developing educational programs for responsible pet ownership, conducting spay and neuter programs, placing adoptable animals in humane environments, advocating for the humane treatment of all animals, and supporting animal welfare issues.
Our goal is to assist with controlling pet overpopulation in Oconee County by encouraging the purchase of spay and neuter certificates and contributing to be an advocate for the humane treatment of animals. We are currently working in conjunction with Oconee County and administering a Low Income Spay/Neuter program. Approved applicants contribute with a $10-$30 copayment depending on income. This program is funded until approximately June 2011 with anticipation of continued funding for next fiscal year by Oconee County.
Both the Oconee County Sheriff's Department Animal Control Unit and the Oconee Humane Society are based at the Oconee Animal Shelter. Animal Control has the responsibility for overseeing the operations at the shelter, including vaccinating and caring for the animals. They respond to animal issues and complaints in the community. The Oconee Humane Society is responsible for the adoption and spay & neuter certificate programs.
