Who We Are

ADOPTION FEES AND APPROVED APPLICATIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR EVERY ADOPTION! Upstate Animal Rescue Foundation of South Carolina currently operates in, Anderson, Pickens, Greenville, and Oconee counties in the state of South Carolina. We are working toward lowering the rate that dogs and cats are being put to death in animal shelters by assisting animals into breed specific rescues as well as into private, adoptive placements. This is primarily done by the use of foster homes as intermediaries.

The majority of the animals that you will see posted by UARFSC through Petfinder.com, are awaiting foster care and/or permanent homes. We are a proud Partner with Petsmart charities!

Myth: all dogs with black tongues are chows.
Fact: all breeds can have black or black spotted tongues.

Myth: all dogs with brindle coats are pit bull Terriers
Fact: all breeds can have a bridle or reverse brindle coat.

Once an applicant is approved, we will make an appointment for you to meet the animal!

Adopting a Friend

If you would like to adopt any of the animals that are posted here, just contact the e-mails listed for that particular pet. We will make every effort to answer all of your questions and to make adoptions happen as quickly as possible.

All adopted animals must be kept as indoor pets, with appropriate and secure exercise time outside, this is to help ensure that the adopted animal will be a part of the family. We do not allow cabling or chaining of any animal. If you currently cable or chain your pet, we will not approve you for adoption.

If you have un-altered pets or dogs who are not on heart worm prevention, we will not approve you for adoption.

If you would like to learn more about spay/neuter or why not to chain and cable your dogs, please contact uarsc@yahoo.com for educational information.

We require a completed adoption application, a veterinary reference, and/or a home visit for any and all adoptions. Adopters must sign a legally binding contract. Also please remember that, we adopt some animals who are too young for the rabies vaccine at the time of adoption. It is your responsibility, as the new pet parent, to obtain this vaccine against the deadly rabies disease. You must sign a rabies verification contract.

Adoption fees are checks only

To meet one of the available pets, you must contact the foster home via email listed by the pet to schedule a private meeting. Someone will contact you as quickly as possible. Please understand it may take several days to process an application. We match the animal to the best applicant suited for the animals care and welfare. We do not introduce you to the animal until the application has been approved.

OWNER SURRENDER AND LOW COST SPAY NEUTER AND VACCINES FOR UPSTATE, S.C..................................................................................................................... Sadly it is that time of year again..................., puppy and kitten season. We will receive hundreds of calls a week from citizens wanting us to take their new puppies or kittens that they have found or allowed to be born to a pet. UARFSC was founded and granted 501c3, non-profit status for our commitment to animals in government operated shelters on death row! We realize that some people can't afford any required donation for our assistance but there is program for everyone. We simply can not answer all the calls and emails for these request, so we are in great hopes these guidelines will assist you in helping us assist these needs. Since we are not a government funded shelter and we have little funding for this high influx of calls we must set guidelines for the heartbreaking reality. 1. We do not take any owner surrendered animal(s) without a commitment from the owner to do one of the following. A. Pay for rabies and Dh2pp cv (dogs), Fvrcp (cats), heart worm test (dogs) feline leukemia test (cats) at their vet. Two low cost mobile testing and vaccine units for the Upstate are Southeastern Vet 864-296-5512, or Richland Creek at 864-232-2718 option 3. If the animal is not altered we do require the pet owner to make a donation to UARFSC for the spay or neuter of their surrendered pet(s). B. Make a donation to UARFSC for testing, vaccines and alter, if the owner does not have a vet. C. If the owner does not have funding to test, vaccinate and fund toward the altering of their pet, they must agree and sign to volunteer at our shelter facility, adoption or fundraiser event; amount of volunteer hours will vary depending on service. 2. In order for UARFSC to assist with the placement of owner surrender animals, in the case of persons wanting to surrender a litter of puppies or kittens, and they wish to keep the adult dog, or parent dog, THEY MUST AGREE TO PURCHASE A LOW COST SPAY/NEUTER PLAN TO HAVE THE ANIMAL ALTERED. UARFSC, can assist them in finding 1 of several low cost programs that is affordable. 3. Always ask the owner if they are willing to foster the animal(s) in their home until we can place them through Petfinder or Petsmart adoption programs. We have limited space for owner surrendered animals and these situations require us to mandate the animal(s) remain in the home until permanent placement can be found. UARFSC foster homes are never to be used for owner surrender animals, these foster homes are for death row animals only. We do provide options for persons wishing to surrender their pet(s), but there are stipulations for responsible owners needing to find a no kill shelter for assistance. We are not a kill shelter, we do not receive tax payer funding and simply can't take and house every request, but WE HAVE OPTIONS! Please understand, we make appointments and have a waiting list for in-take for owner surrendered animals. Lastly, if you have any inquires for low cost spay/neuter for citizens pets, we are proudly partnered with Animal Allies in Spartanburg, SC for Anderson, SC residents, and transport is provided twice monthly from key location, call toll free 1-866-479-0074. or call Anderson County Humane Society for their low cost assistance at 864-225-9855. Greenville County Residents may call 864-467-spay Pickens County Residents may call 1-866-479-0074, transport is provided from key location. Oconee County Residents may call 864-888-0221 There is a feral cat, low cost spay/neuter program in Anderson, S.C., and that number is 585-703-8477. If you are interested in starting a feral cat, trap, alter and release program in your area, call 585-703-8477 for information. Help stop the killing, it is inhumane to allow fur-babies to be born to die!
