Adoptable Pet List

An application is required to start the adoption process, there is no fee to apply BUT YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD. WE ARE NOT A SHELTER, all dogs are fostered in private homes. You will need to apply before meeting a dog. Our adoption fee is $350 for young/adult dogs unless other wise stated and $400 for puppies.

We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, fosters and pets of our own to care for. We do our best to reply as quickly as possible. Please be patient but if you have not heard back within 48-72 hrs, please inquire again.

Most of our dogs originate in the South or Midwest where high kill shleters and a lack of spay/neuter laws result in 1,000's of loving dogs being put to sleep weekly and not always humanely. The more foster homes we have the more dogs we can save and less we have to turn away to a terrible fate. Please ask us about fostering. There are so many to save!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: These dogs are all available to New England but some are waiting for their turn in a Northern foster home. Every one of these wonderful dogs are available and we will make arrangements to get them to you. Please ask about our different options for this.

Dear applicants,

We understand that are application is lengthy and a bit tedious; please appease us. As an ALL and MIXED breed rescue we can not generalize our application the way many other rescues can. We do NOT have specific requirements (such as a fenced yard or no children under 5 yrs) for all of our dogs but we may have some similar requirements for specific dogs. All of the people involved with Mutts4rescue are volunteers with full time jobs, families, pets, foster dogs, and a million emails a day. Being thorough in the completion of this application, and asking any questions you have when submitting it, tremendously helps us reply to you faster and cuts down on our personal phone bills! Mutts4rescue would truly like to thank you for choosing to rescue and save a homeless animal!!

WE APPRECIATE THE TIME YOU HAVE TAKEN TO FILL OUT THIS APPLICATION. OUR GOAL IS LONG-TERM HAPPINESS FOR BOTH THE ADOPTERS AND OUR RESCUED PETS. EVEN THOUGH YOURS MAY BE A GOOD HOME, WE SOMETIMES HAVE TO MAKE DIFFICULT CHOICES IN DECIDING WHICH HOME WOULD BEST FIT A SPECIFIC ANIMAL.

In addition, if for any reason, at any time, you cannot keep your pet, they must come back to the adoptive agency unless another adopter is approved in writing.

Who We Are

Mutts4rescue is a group of volunteers dedicated to saving dogs whose only fault is being homeless. Our goal is to prevent abandoned and surrendered dogs from ending up in high kill shelters. Many of our dogs do come from high kill shelters where they have just days to find a home before their time runs out. Our mission is to save these dogs, one at a time and give them a second chance for a happy healthy life. We do not have a shelter or a kennel and most all our dogs are fostered in private homes.

PLEASE HELP US BY FOSTERING Mutts4rescue needs more foster homes! Please inquire about helping us save more dogs by opening your home to one of these deserving dogs. We rely on loving foster homes like yours to save as many dogs as possible and then to make them available to meet other families that want to adopt a homeless dog. Fostering is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have and there is nothing like the bittersweet moment your foster goes to their new, excited, forever home knowing you made it possible.

Adopting a friend

All of our dogs are up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, spayed/neutered (required), heartworm negative and have been deemed healthy by a vet unless otherwise stated. Our adoption fee is $350 including transport. This fee barely cover our expenses for the average dog and we require donations for dogs with additional vetting needs. This does not include food, heartworm preventative and flea'tick preventative or basic supplies for the dogs which is paid for by our volunteers.

A completed application including vet reference and pre-adoption home visit is required. Renters need to include their landlord information when submitting their application. Please cut and paste the application above. Due to the large volume of emails we receive, specific questions about a dog will not be answered until an application is submitted. All the pertinent information that is available about a dog is typically listed on the dog's Petfinder posting so please read it carefully.

On average our expenses are well over the adoption fee for healthy dogs and does not include any treatment if a dog becomes sick once in foster care. We rely on donations AND the adoption fee to be able to help more dogs in need. Additionally, the estimated amount does not cover food, treats, toys, bedding, heartworm and flea/tick preventative, collars, leashes, etc. That is covered by our volunteers and foster Moms and Dads, so gift cards to Wal-Mart, Petco, PetSmart or any other store that sells pet supplies are always appreciated to help defray the cost of the daily expenses involved in fostering these dogs. Please feel free to ask your vet what the cost of an office visit, heartworm/lyme test, and age appropriate vaccinations along with a spay or neuter would cost. i think you'll be surprised.

We do not have a shelter or kennel for you to visit as our dogs reside in foster homes. We are always in need of donations so we can help other dogs in need, get dogs out of shelters, and put them into boarding so they will be safe until adopted. Foster homes and home visit volunteers are always needed. Please email DHGinn@comcast.net if you would like to help in any way.

Testimonials from former adopters

I adopted my puppy Benjamin without having met him which may seem surprising, but I had a long and wonderful conversation with his foster mom which gave me all the information I needed to know he was the pup for me. And I still keep in touch with his foster mom who sent me photos of Benjamin's earlier puppy-hood--she really cares about her rescues. When Benjamin arrived he was even more wonderful and beautiful than I had imagined. I wholeheartedly encourage others to adopt puppies from the South without meeting them. It's important to keep in mind that speaking to foster parents gives far more information on a pup than a visit to a shelter or local backyard breeder. I have two friends who also adopted their puppies long distance (through other rescue organizations) and they, too, are thrilled with their dogs. One of them also keeps in touch with her pup's foster parents. -Catherine, Benjamin was born in Louisiana

From the first contact I had with this rescue group, I was impressed. The application for adoption was clearly well prepared, and I was relieved to see the care that obviously went into the matching process. I was further impressed with the personal attention that my adoption was given. I had applied to another rescue group, and had never received a response, so I was prepared for disappointment. Therefore, I was so thrilled to receive a phone call within just a few days of submitting my application, with the wonderful news that my family was an apparent match with Candy. Once we had established by phone that the match seemed to be a very good one, I received clear instructions on the adoption process and timing. We were very anxious to meet our new addition. Through your group's well organized process, that meeting came within three days of my initial phone interview! My husband and I went to meet the transport. There were many pick-up locations and times available. The transport was courteously and professionally staffed (and, by the way, came exactly at the scheduled time). We met Candy and took her home, and we have had absolutely no regrets. I received several follow up calls to ensure that the process had gone smoothly, and I had confidence in the process every step of the adoption. Candy is now part of our family, and we would highly recommend adoption through Mutts4rescue and its affiliates. - Jane, Candy was born in Georgia

My husband and I are so happy with our new family member, a ten-month-old Shepard mix named Buddy. We adopted him through Mutts4rescue. After searching the web for possible puppy's to adopt, my husband and I were drawn to Buddy (then Tippy). When we contacted April Reeves, the adoption coordinator, we found out that Buddy was in Louisiana and was a result of the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. At first my husband and I were leery about adopting a dog we had not seen before, but after speaking to April she told us all about Buddy, his situation and personality. She was there for us every step of the way and addressed all of our concerns. After speaking with April and learning more about the dogs in the south, we felt good and confident about adopting our puppy. The whole adoption process was fairly easy and the cost was actually lower then the local adoptions which run anywhere from $300 to $500. Buddy is a happy puppy and we are so in love with him!!! We defiantly recommend Mutts4rescue to adopt a dog. Tiffany and Vince Vitale, RI

I am happy to report that our adoption for Sedona (formerly known as Bonna) has been a great success. She is a great addition to our family and we found the process of getting her a smooth one. For anyone who may have concern about the long distance adoption I can attest that the people we dealt with were courteous and took great interest in seeing each dog get a good home. Everything was clearly laid out for us, even specifically should the adoption not work out. We are very happy with Sedona, she is adjusting to our two cats and to the New England weather. I don't think she is crazy about the cold but that's just the southerner in her. I would recommend this site for adoption and foster care. Our experience was definitely a positive one. Thanks again, Amber, Sedona was born in Louisiana

After my beloved dog died suddenly in August, I decided to rescue a dog instead of buying a puppy. After looking at hundreds of dogs both locally at shelters, with breeders and regionally I was lucky enough to find your website. In September I adopted a dog from your affiliate All Creatures Rescue via your website. I submitted my application to Katie for a dog named Nadia, a Catahoula Leopard dog. Katie and I had a few telephone conversations and many emails in which questions were answered for both of us. I was required to give references including one for a vet, who was contacted by All Creatures Rescue. Katie was very honest about the dog, including temperament and medical history that I was interested in adopting. The process was thorough but not overly long and completed with compassion and professionalism. I can't thank Katie enough for her help. She was wonderful to work with and any dog in her home is well cared for and loved. Regarding Nadia my rescued dog, she is everything I was told to expect and more. She's so sweet and everyone who meets her just falls in love with her. The daycare where she goes 2 days a week thinks she is an awesome dog and love having her come. I took her to the vet for a check up shortly after she arrived and he said she is in great shape. She has won over more than one person who wasn't really a "dog person". She has adjusted well to the cold Northeast and we are looking forward to playing in the snow. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience of adopting a rescue dog. I never would have found Nadia without your website and All Creatures Rescue. You provide a wonderful service for dogs and people who love them. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to anyone and hope to have the opportunity to rescue another dog from you in the future. Warm Regards, Paula, Nadia was born in Louisiana

My name is Jim Reba and my wife Marie and I live in Dighton MA. On August 26 of this year we picked up a shy little puppy in Windham, NH, at that time named Danny, who we were fortunate to get from Marla Cox, at one of the Mutts4Rescue foster homes in Northern Georgia. Danny is now named Spike, and he came into our lives because our dog, Bridget, who had been our faithful companion for eleven years died earlier this Summer. I can't put into words how much a part of our life Bridget was and how much we loved her and how devastated we were when she died so suddenly. All I can say is that we still miss Bridget, but I can't put into words how much Spike has helped heal the hurt we felt by Bridget's passing. I could go on and write a book, not just an email, about the joy Spike has brought into our lives in the past three months. He is such a warm and loveable little dog who follows us everywhere and has brought so much joy into our lives. He is the cutest and best behaved dog you could ask for. Everyday he gives us total and unconditional love. When we wake up in the morning he is in bed with us and he wakes us up by crawling on top of us and kissing our faces. Last night I feel asleep in my recliner watching TV and I woke up well after midnight, and sure enough, Spike was still on my lap, fast asleep and enjoying every minute of it. He not only brings joy to us, but to everyone in the neighborhood. He is a mixed breed (part Wire Haired Terrier & part Dashhound) that weighs 21 pounds. In the past three months since he's been with us he's also fallen in love. His new love is named Shea and she is our neighbors 110 pound -YES 110 POUNDS - Great Dane. Spike sits in front of the picture window of our family room every morning to wait for Shea to come out of her house. As soon as he sees her he cries like a baby until we let him out. Once he is out he and Shea play and chase each other around the yard for hours. It is an absolute riot to watch the two of them play so well together.

Derek and I adopted Maddie the sheepdog when she was 6 months old through your affiliate, All Creatures Rescue in Lake Charles, LA. I can't describe the feeling I got when the van doors opened on 8/19/06 and she looked at us. She is an absolute treasure and everyone loves her. She's a big clown. I would never consider going through a breeder when there are so many animals out there that need loving homes. We had so much joy from Maddie that we decided to adopt Virginia Hebert's own standard poodle Jessee. He too, is a loving addition to our family and has settled right in. He and Maddie are the best of buds now. They go to daycare every day and have so much fun. We got the invisible fence and gave them 2.5 acres to romp on and they certainly cover all of it!!!! What you guys do on a daily basis is amazing. You are truly selfless people who have devoted your time and energy to animals. They don't ask for the situation they are brought into. Humans do this to them. Thanks to people like you guys, we can provide loving homes for them. It would be a crying shame for this to end. It would break my heart. - Lori
