Warwick Animal Shelter

The Warwick Shelter is dedicated to providing humane care and conditions to the animals housed at the shelter, we strive to provide the best environment possible for our animals by welcoming and working with volunteers. The shelter's priorities also include facilitating adoptions, educating the public on issues pertaining to animals and enforcing sterilization laws in effect. Can anyone adopt Murph?? Murphy is a lab/ hound mix, he was originally found as a stray, he was here for several months before someone adopted him but then his new owner lost their house and so Murphy came back to the shelter where he's been for months. He really needs to find a home, he can't stay here forever and it's not fair to him. Murphy is a great dog with lots of personality, he is moderately active; he likes to go for walks and play with his toys, but he also likes to hang out and relax, he is housebroken and crate trained too. He does fine with cats but should be the only dog in the house, he also wouldn't be a good choice for toddlers. Murphy is about 70 lbs and he is 7 or 8 years old, he loves being around people and would make a great companion. He will be at the Petco in garden city on Saturday February 20th if anyone wants to meet him. Can you adopt me? A Great Agility Dog Thanks to the wonderful person who adopted Simon, and gave him the chance he needed. It can be hard to find people willing to put some work into a dog that needs help rather than adopt a dog with "no" issues, luckily for Simon one of those people came along and gave him another chance with some professional assistance. Simon is currently working with a trainer and his new mom which should get him where he needs to be. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for this little guy! Can you adopt me? Nike near the tree In the Cat Adoption Room at The Warwick Animal Shelter you can visit with the many cats that are available for adoption. You will have the chance to speak with the staff about the different personalities and which cat would be a great fit for you or your family. As you can see by the picture potential adoptors love to sit on the floor and visit with the many cats and play with them. It is a very relaxing atmosphere. Check out Red now Elias transformed from shelter cat to being at home with his two new siblings. At the Shelter With one new sibling It doesn't get better than this! Home at Last! We have been meaning to email you guys for a while to share with you how much we love our newest baby! We adopted Red (we named him Elias) back at the end of April, beginning of May. We have loved getting to know him! He was pretty shy when we met him at the shelter. When we found him, he wouldn't come out of his cage (see first picture). He has slowly come out of his shell and has developed quite the personality. He loves to be held (and will purr like crazy), but that can be hard because he has gotten to be HUGE! He is a very tall and long cat, it seems like he is half the size of his mom! He also loves his brother and sister and the three can often be found cuddling together! His other favorite is water! He is obsessed with the cats water fountain, the bathtub and the sink. He drives us crazy when we are trying to do dishes, he just wants to play! Thank you to the Warwick Animal Shelter for rescuing our baby and getting him ready for us to adopt, he has been such a wonderful addition to our lives! Joy & Andrew Are you missing your pet? Bully type dogs sit in shelters longer than any other breed and are very often euthanized because the shelters run out of space or the dogs deteriorate because they don't get enough stimulation. We are also looking for foster homes for dogs that are in danger of being euthanized... Most of our rescues are American Pit Bull Terriers/American Staffordshire Terriers/bully breed mixes. Dogs will be spayed/neutered up to date on shots prior to going into foster care... **** Our organization also will mandate you take your dog to our AKC Canine Good Citizen Training classes with our trainers while the dog is in foster care... Most people, who are unfamiliar with the American Pit Bull Terrier or Staffordshire Terrier falsely believe that they are dangerous dogs. Unfortunately, Pit Bulls have a bad reputation based mostly upon media coverage. Like all breeds of dogs there are good and bad, but what many people don't realize is that it is rare for pitbulls to be aggressive with humans. The news always covers the bites given by this breed and neglects to cover serious bites given by other breeds thus scewing public opinion about the pitbull breeds. Pits are actually very stable, intelligent, and highly trainable (and they think they are lap dogs). They are strong athletic dogs and they require a guardian who is responsible and will give them plenty of exercise and training. Delilah**** I am a 1 year old, spayed female, I have been vaccinated and tested for Felv/FIV. I was a stray living outside when some nice people decided that it wasn’t a good situation so they brought me to the shelter to find a home. As you can see I a very pretty little girl, I do o.k with other cats and I am very sweet. PET INFORMATION If you're seeking to adopt a pet, please don't forget that if you are visiting cats and dogs in the shelter, they are typically stressed out from being caged in. Many of the pets need to be taken away from their cages for you to see their real personalities. So give them a chance. If a dog is barking noisily in its cage, please speak to someone in the shelter who knows its behavior. The shelter worker will tell you if the pet is appropriate for young children, if it's good with other pets, and generally if it might be a good match for you and your family. This program is run by obedience instructor Susan Parker, who works with dogs awaiting adoption. This program is extremely important in helping make sure the resident shelter animals are provided with the proper mental and physical stimulation to fit their needs along with fine-tuning their behavior to facilitate successful adoption. Susan is also willing to train any volunteers who are interested in helping shelter dogs to become good citizens. Susan employs simple but extremely useful commands that will greatly increase the dog's odds of being adoptable. She will focus on her "Dog Manners 101" course, which entails obedience instructions on: leash training, no jumping, sit, stay and getting your dog to behave in public places. This course is available for owned dogs as well. You must be at least eighteen years of age. There are plenty of different things to do, and training is provided. We need volunteers to walk the dogs during the week or play with the cats. They will be stuck in there cages without your help!
