WELCOME to the City of East Providence's Animal Control Center Website. We are here to ensure the safety and well being of the public and animals of the City of East Providence. We take pride in finding permanent homes for the animals we care for. Adopting an animal to a good home is a very rewarding experience for the staff, and we would like to say "THANK YOU" to all of you who have adopted from us in the past, and to those of you who will adopt from us in the future.... :)

About us.........

Our facility houses stray animals, providing them with shelter, food and water. We are able to house up to 18 cats and 22 dogs, and we also have a quarantine area to protect the citizens and animals of the city from the spread of zoonotic diseases (infectious diseases that are naturally transmissible between animals and humans) such as rabies. We do our very best to give them love and affection but it’s a full time job providing them with safety and protection. We take pride in our ability to save each one, individually, and to reunite them with their rightful owners and/or place them into permanent homes where they will get the love and attention they deserve.

We go above and beyond the call of duty for our animals. We strive to maintain a clean, well kept facility and our main goal is to offer temporary shelter to the abused, neglected, abandoned and lost animals of the city, in accordance with city and state law.

Unfortunately, we are unable to take in any animals that currently have an owner and/or home. We are limited in space and the number of stray animals we are responsible for, does not allow us any room to spare. Please know we do everything in our power to help anyone in need, and if we can, we will.

Any inquiries, notifications or complaints that require assistance from our Animal Control Officers must be made by calling 401-435-7675. Any urgent matters can also be reported to the East Providence Police Department by calling 401-435-7600.

Please take a look at some of the wonderful cats, kittens, dogs, and occasionally pups, that are available for adoption. Not all are listed, but they are all lovable and in need of good homes. Please use the website to gain a little insight on the animals, then feel free to come down, visit and hopefully, adopt!!!

We are open 7 days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Adopting a friend

In order to adopt an animal from our shelter, you must complete our application and be approved by one of our staff members. If you are a renter, you may provide a letter from your Landlord stating you are allowed to have a pet on the premises. The letter must include their name, address, phone number, and any pertinent restrictions to size and/or breed. Please be sure to specify your name and address as the tenant. We can also call your Landlord to verbally verfy this information. Your pets at home must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccine and any cats must be spayed/neutered. You can feel free to bring in any paperwork you have to prove this, or we can also verify the information verbally with the veterinarian information you provide on our application. Once this information is verified and you are approved, then you can take home your newest addition to your family!!! :)
