Smithfield Animal Control
Shelter News
The 2007 rabies clinic was a great success! Thanks to Dr Graham and Greenville Animal Hospital and all the great volunteers that donated their time on a saturday afternoon. The count was up 25 animals from last year, 87 dogs and 35 cats! Hopefully with some more prep and some more media the clinic will start picking up again. Once again Tom, myself, the volunteers and all of our purring, tail wagging friends want to thank all of you that made this years clinic a great success!!
The Smithfield Shelter is always looking for donations, the following could be very useful; a full size refrigerator, clear plastic storage totes (Large to Extra Large), pet carriers, card board disposible carriers, paint and painting supplies to get started on a well deserved and over do painting of the inside and outside of the shelter, dog beds (Kuranda, or replacable material for the current ones) dog collars, leashes, retractable leashes (for larger dogs) These are a favorite of all of our volunteers. Monetary donations are always welcome, these donations will be used for the purchase of vaccinations, heartworm, FIV/Leuk tests and spay and neuter of our purring tail wagging friends.
As for the paint and materials, please contact the shelter and speak to either Tom or Bob as for what colors they will be using to brighten up our fine facility.

Who We Are
The Municipal Animal Shelter and Animal Control Division of the Town of Smithfield Police Department. The shelter is staffed by 2 ACO's, 4-5 volunteers and 1 vet tech. The shelter is also serviced by 3 Rhode Island Veterinarian's; North Paws Veterinary Center, Greenville Animal Hospital, and Warren Animal Hospital.
Adopting a friend
All the animals that are in need of good homes can be seen and adopted at the shelter 7 days a week; Mon, Wed, Sat, and Sun, from the hours of 9am-3pm and extended hours on Tues, Thurs and Fri from 9am-7pm . The majority of the cats at the shelter have been vet checked and are spayed/nuetered, up to date on all shots and AIDS/Leuk tested. The majority of our dogs are turn-ins. The ACO's attempt to get as much information and records as they can regarding these tail wagging friends. Adoptions for intact animals require a $30.00 deposit (that is returned once the animal is altered), and the filling out of the adoption paperwork. Animals that have come to us altered already are free to thier new life long homes (donations are ALWAYS welcome). Animals that are altered through the shelter require an adoption fee. The fees are as follows;
Male and female cats require an $85.00 adoption fee
Male and female dogs require a $100.00 adoption fee
These fees cover the out of pocket cost for the altering (spay/neuter) , vaccinations (RV, DLHP) and required testing (Heartworm, FIV, F Leuk) for the animals. Already altered animals would require a lesser fee depending on any out of pocket cost through the shelter.
Please call first to make sure someone will be there to show you the animals. The ACO's are often out on calls for extended periods of time.
Thank you.
