The PAWTUCKET ANIMAL SHELTER is a municipal shelter that accepts stray/abandoned animals from the City of Pawtucket. We house both dogs and cats, and have found an occasional bunny, ferret, etc. Our dedicated staff consists of one animal control supervisor, two animal control officers, a veterinary technican/ officer manager, a pound keeper and volunteers.
The adoption process includes a brief application that must be filled out by each potential adopter. There is a $15.00 adoption fee and a $20.00 spay/neuter deposit which is left until the animal you adopt gets spayed/neutered. (EXACT CASH ONLY PLEASE) You will be given a date as to when this procedure needs to be done, and once done, the deposit is returned to you. You will receive a form at the time of adoption that must be signed and dated by your vet, and then either returned by bringing it to the shelter, or by mailing it to: Pawtucket Police Dept., 127 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI 02860 and put Attention: Animal Control. Upon receipt of this form, your deposit refund will be processed and you will recieve a check in the mail for $20.00. It is the law in Rhode Island as well as Massachusetts that any animal adopted from a shelter must be spayed/neutered. We do have a five (5) day return policy for any animal that is adopted from us, but please understand there will be an adjustment period.
Donations are always welcome. All donations go into our vet care fund which provides vet care for the animals in the shelter.
