The Cranston Animal Shelter has 3 Animal Control Officers Sr. ACO Patricia Maxwell has been with the city for 27 years, ACO David Lovejoy has been with the city for 26 years, ACO Christy Burdick has been with the city for 18 years. The shelter also has 1 Kennel Attendant Pamela "Susie" Capper she has been with the city for 10 years. Their is an Animal Control Officer on duty 7 days a week. The kennel attendant works Tuesday thru Saturday. The Cranston Animal Shelter has 40 indoor/outdoor dog kennels 4 of which are strictly for housing dogs under quarantine. The shelter has 23 cat cages in the main cat room, 3 cat cages in isolation and 6 cat quarantine cages. The shelter accepts all stray animals found in the City of Cranston, which include but not limited to dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, ferrets and domestic birds. The shelter also accepts turn in's from Cranston residents. The number one reason a person will turn in their dog or cat is due to having to move. All stray animals are held for 10 days to give the owner a chance to claim them, after which they are put up for adoption. ALL animals once available for adoption are spayed or neutered prior to going to their new home. On average the shelter has 50 animals in their care at any given time.
FOR OUR CATS WE ARE IN NEED OF: Iams dry cat/kitten food,Canned kitten food any brand/flavor, Individual cardboard scratching posts that can hang on the inside of our cat cages, Bound carpet samples are kitties love them in their cages to scratch and lay on, Scoopable cat litter, for our house cat "Moose", Recycled newspaper pellet litter for our cat guests we use Yesterday's News, Cat collars and harnesses
FOR OUR DOGS WE ARE IN NEED OF: Peanut butter or cans of Kong treat filler, Grain free small bite dog food for our special dogs with skin problems and allergies, gently used harnesses and collars, washable dog beds, Grooming supplies Shampoo,Medicated Shampoo ear cleaner solution, puppy cologne, doggie wipes.
THE SHELTER IS IN NEED OF: Laundry detergent, Dish Liquid, 2 rechargeable Swivel Sweeper vacuums and a NON digital scale. .

Directions: Rte. 95 to exit 14 take 37 west to the end bear right shelter is a 1/4 mile on right..from Rte. 295 take Phenix Ave. exit to the end then bear right. We are a 1/4 mile on the right.
Adopting a Friend
THE SHELTER ONLY ACCEPTS CHECKS OR MONEY ORDERS FOR ADOPTIONS.
Adoption Fee for cats $95.00 includes spay/ neuter rabies and distemper vaccination.(rabies only if 12 weeks or older at time of altering) Adoption Fee for Dogs $180-$200 including vaccinations ,heart worm test, 1st months heart worm pill and flea control.
You will need to bring your drivers license,and proof that your able to have a pet,if you rent you will need a copy of your lease agreement, or a notarized letter from your landlord .If you own your own home a mortgage statement, or a city tax bill.
Out of state adoptions are accepted.
All of our animals are altered before leaving the Cranston Animal Shelter NO exceptions..
If your newly ""ADOPTED PET ""does not work out you can return the pet to the Cranston Animal Shelter for a full refund of fees associated with spay/neuter reimbursements or cost of vaccines and tests within 30 days of the adoption. Your $20.00 donation is NOT refundable.
The shelter does not take animals out of their cages 1/2 hour prior to closing.
