CHECKERS!
Hector is just the sweetest and most loving and adorable little pup we've ever known. He listens, is a fast learner and wants nothing more than to please you! Check out his profile and look at his picture - you'll know what I mean! He is a gentle little soul who was kicked out into the street because of a skin condition called mange. We send you a "before" photo on request. Hector is healed and happy even though some of his hair will never fully grow back. He has only one thing on his mind: his forever home! He loves squeacky toys and even empty plastic water galon jugs can entertain him for hours. Walks are his favorite thing! There has never been a happier dog on this planet than Hector running rabbit style in the grass! And then a nice little nap in the doggy bed... that's all!!!
News
Sato Dream Home has been on petfinder.com for 4 years. We would like to thank everybody envolved and especially our adopters, for their continued support. Thanks to you, 24 dogs and 2 cats found their forever homes in 2008! In 2009 we were able to adopt 30 dogs and 4 cats to wonderful homes and in 2010 eighteen of our pups and three cats were able to find wonderful families! We are hoping for 2011 to be an even better year for our Satos!
Special thanks go to Ann Marie, our volunteer and friend in Michigan, who never gets tired to do what it takes. Over half of our animals keep finding their forever homes in the Detroit area!
Thanks everybody! Let's keep the numbers up there!
But we couldn't do it without the help and support of our veterinarian Dr. Hector Martinez and his wonderful staff at the "Clinica Veterinaria De Salinas"!
Who We Are
Sato Dream Home is not an organization. We are a family with a big heart for abondonned dogs and puppies. Puerto Rico is a sad place for animal lovers. There is very little education about spaying/neutering and general animal welfare. Unwanted pups are continuously dumped like garbage. People are willing to pay good money for a pure bred, but the "Satos", the Puerto Rican mutts, are considered worthless. I have spent some ten years living with and caring for quite a lot of these Satos, and their loyalty, love, gratitude and intelligence are hard to match.
Our approach to helping homeless, abandoned or mistreated animals in Puerto Rico is twofold.
First of all, we provide shelter, food and medical care for every puppy, dog or kitten we rescue. They all receive their routine shots, they are spayed/neutered, and we go the extra mile for any broken bones, hernias, skin diseases, heartworm disease or even cancer, these poor souls might have suffered from, while fending for themselves in the streets.
Second, we visit local schools and provide free lessons and workshops for students about proper animal care, spaying/neutering and prevention of cruelty to animals. We are hoping that education starting as early as pre-kinder will make a difference in the future of the animals and the children!
But there is the one thing that is so hard for us to provide - love and attention!
Every picture you look at on this page, is longing for your 24/7 attention. Behind every picture is a story of suffering, waiting for that "Happy Tail"!
If you think you might have found your friend for life on Sato Dream Home, please contact us, and we'll try to provide for the smoothest transition possible for everybody involved.
Adopting a friend
Saving just one dog won't change the world but it surely will change the world for that one dog. Please call or e-mail to find out about our adoption fees and to receive a copy of our adoption application.
Maybe you cannot adopt an animal at this time, but you are flying from Puerto Rico to the US, or you know of somebody who is flying. Why not consider escorting a pet to its new home in the US. There is no extra cost involved, whether monetary or time wise. Departure and arrival are completely organized by us. Our main destinations are Detroit MI, Hartford CT and Boston MA.
If you are interested in being an escort for a pet in need, please contact us to find out more about our pet escort program.
You might like to help our homeless animals, but you are not a frequent flyer? Please consider being a shelter pet sponsor! Some of our rescue animals require expensive treatment, like heartworm treatment or chemotherapy. Or you might like to donate dogfood, treats or toys. The smallest gift makes for a bigger chance of our animals to find their forever homes!
