Senior Pets have lived in a home, have been loved, have mellower personalities than kittens or puppies, are visibly grateful for rescue, and are looking for a safe and comfortable place to spend the rest of their lives.
Our seniors come to us from all situations - kill shelters, private surrender, and the occasional stray. Each animal is fully vetted including shots, FIV/FeLV testing, and a senior blood panel. This initial vet visit can cost up to a couple hundred dollars.
The Grannie Project is funded entirely by private donations - which are utilized almost exclusively for veterinary bills for animals in our care. We currently have no shelter facility, but operate out of a network of carefully screened foster homes.
The Grannie Project is a small, independent, no-kill animal rescue, dedicated to rescuing and advocating for senior pets. While we believe that adoption is the best option, we also believe that there is even more value in adopting a sweet senior pet.
It all started with two 20-year old sister kitties rescued from a high-kill shelter where they were dumped when their owner died. Their rescue changed our founder's life forever. Realizing that these sweet souls were at death's door through no fault of their own - and that there were hundreds more just like them - caused her to make a promise to the ones that she couldn't save that day. That she would do what she could to change things.
Not only does The Grannie Project rescue animals, we strive to educate pet owners that their pets need to be planned for in their Wills.
