Our Mission

Harley's Haven Dog Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in the greater Philadelphia area. We are a foster based all breed and all ages rescue. Our purpose is to rescue dogs from high kill shelters and unwanted situations, provide them with appropriate vet care, and then find them loving forever homes.

**We are not a shelter so we do not a physical location that houses dogs. All of our dogs live in private foster homes. To meet a potential dog, please visit our website to learn more about our adoption process:

Adoption Policy

Step 1: Submit a pre-adoption form and once approved, you will be able to schedule a meet with the dog. Along with checking vet references on current pets, we will also check with a landlord if you are currently renting. We also make sure everyone in the home is on board with this decision (i.e. if you are living with parents or another roommate, we will contact them).

The rescue was created to rescue abandoned dogs, find healthy, loving, permanent homes for them and also create a more responsible world of pet ownership. Therefore we are adamant about vaccinations, regular vet care, socialization, and spay/neutering as basic requirements for reducing the number of abandoned and euthanized pets on this planet. Before completing our application, please be aware that all current pets must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccines unless there is a documented medical reason from your veterinarian. The dog you are applying for MUST be kept as an inside dog (meaning not chained up and/or living outside in any capacity). Applicants must be 21 or older to adopt a dog.

Step 2: Schedule a meet with the dog. All of our dogs live in private foster homes so we do not have a facility to visit.

If you have other pets, a meet will be scheduled to make sure all the pets get along.

Step 3: If the meet goes well, we schedule a day we can bring the dog to you for the 2-week foster-to-adopt period. This is a period of adjustment where you and dog can get to know each other and to make sure everything is going well. If you have another pet in the home, this is also a nice amount of time for them to get used to each other. We can help you through any training issues by putting you in touch with various trainers and we can answer any questions or concerns you might have. We do require the full fee at this time of drop-off but will hold it until you officially adopt. If the dog needs to come back to us, we take them back and will refund your fee (less a $50 foster fee).

Step 4: If all goes well, you officially adopt.

*Adoption Fee: $425 covers the following items and is required up front:

Full series of vaccines to bring the dog current

Spay/Neuter surgery

Microchip and lifetime registration

First dose of heartworm/flea/tick preventatives

Vet care the dog has been receiving while in our care

Our Policy on refunds:

We require all adoption fees up front and will hold them until the official adoption happens. If you need to return a dog during the foster period we will give you a refund (less a $50 foster fee). If you officially adopt and later on decide to return the dog, there will be no refund. Once dogs are officially adopted, we use that fee to help save and care for more dogs. We are a small rescue that uses all of our funds to help needy dogs and are therefore, not in a position to refund an adoption fee on a dog once he/she is officially adopted.

Miscellaneous:

Home Visit – if we are unable to do the home visit and drop-off for reasons due to scheduling or logistics, then we require you to provide us with photos of your home and yard before picking the dog up from us.

Disclaimer:

There are several reasons we may choose to deny your request to foster/adopt with us. These reasons include but are not limited to: negative references from veterinarian and/or personal references, lack of permission from landlord, rescue dog meeting current pet(s) is unsuccessful, inappropriate match of rescue dog to family, applicant name found on a “Do not adopt” list, etc . Completing an adoption application is not a guarantee that you will receive the dog you are applying for, and Harley’s Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to reject any application as we see fit.
