The Animal Rescue League is located in East Liberty, at the corner of Fifth and Hamilton Avenue.

If you are interested in a pet, we recommend you check their Petfinder profile to see where they are living - at the shelter, a participating Petco store, or in a foster home. Pets located at the shelter or in a store can get adopted within a day or two of being posted, so if you are interested, come meet them right away! Meeting with a pet who is in foster care, awaiting adoption, can be scheduled through email.

Unfortunately, although some pets find homes quickly, others are with us a long time. So if the pet you thought you wanted has found a home, please ask our staff for suggestions. We have pets to fit almost any household!

PETS OF THE MONTH!

CLYDE and ANNA MARIE & BETTY SUE

Dog

CLYDE

Two year old Clyde is quite the handsome fellow!! He was found as a stray and brought to the shelter where is he waiting for his forever home! Clyde is a fun guy. He listens well and sits nicely for treats. Clyde walks fairly well on his leash. He seems to be very interested in meeting other dogs, but proper introductions should always be done at the shelter when adding additional pets into your home!! Clyde would benefit from some obedience classes, but he is a smart guy and should pick commands up quickly!! Come meet our Clyde today.

For more information about Clyde, please contact his volunteer friend, Ilene, at rosspitt@aol.com. You can also call the main shelter at (412) 661-6452!

ANNA MARIE & BETTY SUE

It would be great if Anna Marie and her daughter Betty Sue could be adopted together, but it is more important that these girls both get good homes. They are really nice cats.

ANNA MARIE. When Anna Marie first came to the shelter she had a very bad flea bite allergy and half her fur was gone. But now, three months later, her coat has grown back into a beautiful peach and grey tabby. With her lovely white bib and beautiful green eyes, she is a stunning girl - and she has a wonderful personality to match her good looks.

Anna Marie is about 5 years old. She was brought to the shelter with her daughter, Betty Sue (see separate profile) because their caretaker was ill. Anna is a very intelligent, playful, loving, gentle girl who just loves attention. The minute I approached her cage she was calling to me, and when she say a wand toy, she turned into a little acrobat. It would be great if she could go home with her daughter, but its more important that they both find loving homes. They are both really nice girls.

BETTY SUE. Betty Sue was very frightened when she first came to the shelter, along with her mother, Anna Marie (see separate profile) but all that has changed.

Betty Sue is only about 18 months old. Shes very gentle and just loves to be petted and brushed. She has a great butt button as you can see in her 2nd photo and meows her thanks if you hit the right spot. Betty Sue and her mom have been living in a colony room at the shelter and she has really come out of her shell. She greets every visitor and just loves attention. She rolls over for tummy rubs and flirts outrageously with all visitors.

For more information about these cats, be sure to visit their blog post at Castaway Cats, or contact CatladyCam@gmail.com.

We update our pet list at least once a week, but we still encourage you to visit us. We get new orphaned animals (cats, dogs and rabbits) every day, so stop in often. This site is maintained primarily by volunteers, and while we will try and answer your emails accurately, we are not at the shelter everyday, and again encourage you to visit in person. For example, we do get puppies and kittens in but they are usually adopted out within a day or two. And, while everyone loves puppies, why not consider an older dog? Check out 10 good reasons to adopt an older dog!

Our Mission

To foster a humane spirit among the general public; to educate the public in the proper care of dogs and cats; to provide temporary shelter, food and medical attention to lost, neglected and diseased dogs and cats; to restore lost pets to their owners or to seek new homes for them and to secure a merciful solution for dogs and cats which are old, injured, diseased, dangerous and for which good homes cannot be found.

Volunteering and Donations

We need more volunteers. Especially those who can come during the week. The time spent is very rewarding and you will be helping wonderful animals find new homes. Click here for more information on volunteering.
