The Animal Rescue League is located in East Liberty, at the corner of Fifth and Hamilton Avenue.
If you are interested in a pet, we recommend you check their Petfinder or Petango profile to see where they are living - at the shelter, a participating Petco store, or in a foster home. Pets located at the shelter or in a store can get adopted within a day or two of being posted, so if you are interested, come meet them right away! Meeting with a pet who is in foster care, awaiting adoption, can be scheduled through email.
Unfortunately, although some pets find homes quickly, others are with us a long time. So if the pet you thought you wanted has found a home, please ask our staff for suggestions. We have pets to fit almost any household!

The name's Wilham. Mr Wilham actually.
Tell me I'm not the handsomest guy on this page!
This is my Hugh Hefner pose for the ladies. 'Cause I love the ladies.
But I can be a man's cat too. I'm tall and muscular and love to gallop around the house chasing my toys.
Basically I'm pretty much the perfect companion for any type of person. I'm shy, and prefer adult people. I would be happy as your only companion, however I don't mind female cats, as long as they're OK with some rough and tumble games. My foster mum says I'm a champion heat-butter and nose-nudger! At 3 years young, I love being petted, and I'm very loyal to my human friends. I will sit in the bathroom while you shower, and fall asleep beside you on the couch.
You can find out more about how fabulous I am or arrange a time to meet me by emailing my foster mum.

We update our pet list at least once a week, but we still encourage you to visit us. We get new orphaned animals (cats, dogs and rabbits) every day, so stop in often. This site is maintained primarily by volunteers, and while we will try and answer your emails accurately, we are not at the shelter everyday, and again encourage you to visit in person. For example, we do get puppies and kittens in but they are usually adopted out within a day or two. And, while everyone loves puppies, why not consider an older dog? Check out 10 good reasons to adopt an older dog! |

To foster a humane
spirit among the general public; to educate the public in the proper care
of dogs and cats; to provide temporary shelter, food and medical attention
to lost, neglected and diseased dogs and cats; to restore lost pets to
their owners or to seek new homes for them and to secure a merciful solution
for dogs and cats which are old, injured, diseased, dangerous and for
which good homes cannot be found.
For information on adoptions, please call (412) 661-6452, ext.215. or go to our adoption page.
We need more volunteers. Especially those who can come during the week. The time spent is very rewarding and you will be helping wonderful animals find new homes. Click here for more information on volunteering.
