The Animal Rescue League is located in East Liberty, at the corner of Fifth and Hamilton Avenue.
If you are interested in a pet, we recommend you check their Petfinder profile to see where they are living - at the shelter, a participating Petco store, or in a foster home. Pets located at the shelter or in a store can get adopted within a day or two of being posted, so if you are interested, come meet them right away! Meeting with a pet who is in foster care, awaiting adoption, can be scheduled through email.
Unfortunately, although some pets find homes quickly, others are with us a long time. So if the pet you thought you wanted has found a home, please ask our staff for suggestions. We have pets to fit almost any household!

PETS OF THE MONTH! |
|
With bewitching green eyes and genuine interest in everyone, you would swear that Kitty Kitty (aka K. K.) is trying to talk to you. Whether she's saying that it's dinner time, or time for cuddles, or that you're wearing a particularly unflattering shade of green, KK has catitude that no one can deny.
KK loves attention and affection, yet isn't needy. She prefers to be petted rather than be held in your arms, and she enjoys sitting on the couch next to her human companion. KK's signature move is the lick-head-butt-body-rub-spin-around-and-lick-again manouver. It's very complicated, but KK has perfected it.
KK is 4.5 years young and was surrendered by her previous family because someone was allergic to her. She would probably prefer a quiet home with older teenagers or adults only. She tolerates cats who stay away from her and respectful, quiet dogs, but she would also be very happy as her new family's only pet.
So if you're looking for an entertaining companion with larger-than-life personality, consider our KK! If you'd like to meet her, please contact her foster mum.

| A PARTIAL LIST OF OUR AVAILABLE PETS...
Click to see some of our happy endings!
We update our pet list at least once a week, but we still encourage you to visit us. We get new orphaned animals (cats, dogs and rabbits) every day, so stop in often. This site is maintained primarily by volunteers, and while we will try and answer your emails accurately, we are not at the shelter everyday, and again encourage you to visit in person. For example, we do get puppies and kittens in but they are usually adopted out within a day or two. And, while everyone loves puppies, why not consider an older dog? Check out 10 good reasons to adopt an older dog! |

To foster a humane
spirit among the general public; to educate the public in the proper care
of dogs and cats; to provide temporary shelter, food and medical attention
to lost, neglected and diseased dogs and cats; to restore lost pets to
their owners or to seek new homes for them and to secure a merciful solution
for dogs and cats which are old, injured, diseased, dangerous and for
which good homes cannot be found.
For information on adoptions, please call (412) 661-6452, ext.215. or go to our adoption page.
We need more volunteers. Especially those who can come during the week. The time spent is very rewarding and you will be helping wonderful animals find new homes. Click here for more information on volunteering.
