About Us
We are in the process of changing our name and obtaining 501 (c) 3 non-profit status! We were formerly known as Pennsylvania Stray Save, Inc. Please be sure to see our website at www.pawscrossroads.org!
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES FULLY.
Thank you for your interest in adopting one of our homeless pets. We appreciate that you are considering a rescued animal.
In order to adopt or meet with one of our available pets, you must first fill out the Adoption Application located on our website, www.pawscrossroads.org. We will ONLY consider homes with the adoption application first being submitted. The Adoption Application does not commit you to adopting, however we need this information that is vital to the adoption process.
The adoption process is as follows: 1. Adoption Application 2. Application Approval/Discussion with Adopter, and 3. Homevisit.
We are unable to make exceptions to these steps.
Most of the information we have on the pet is listed in this description, including age, prospective adoption date, spay/neuter status, vaccination status, and whether the pet is good with children or other animals. Please read the animal's description fully before calling or emailing us for information on the pet. If you have a question that is not covered in the adoption description, please feel free to contact us.
Please note, we do not have a shelter or public location. This means there are no "Hours of Operation". If you want to adopt or meet an animal, you must follow the above procedure.
First and foremost, our organization is a network of non-paid volunteers. Volunteers who have jobs, families, interests, and our own pets. We give selflessly because it is in our very core. Trust me when I say that we wish our second "jobs" as rescuers were not necessary.
We promote responsible pet ownership and will certainly offer suggestions on how you may successfully keep your pet in your home. We accept owner surrendered companion pets on a case by case basis.
Sadly, we don't have unlimited time, space, and funds to be able to help each homeless pet. Each animal that comes into our program must be spayed or neutered, have a physical exam, be vaccinated for distemper, bordatella, and rabies, have a heartworm test and a feline leukemia test for a cat, and of course they need to eat, have things to play with, beds to sleep on, treatment for parasites, and of course LOVE.
The average cost for a healthy dog not needing any additional medical treatment, but the above is $135. Monthly heartworm and flea treatment per animal runs $5-$15. Food cost varies on the size of the animal, and there are the regular cleaning supplies, blankets, towels, and toys that are also needed. If the animal has any additional medical ailments or injuries as many strays do, the bill can be hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
Some of our long term goals include: implementing a low-cost spay/neuter program, and coordinating a Trap and Release (TnR) stray cat program aimed at providing homeless and feral cats with vaccines, and to control the population by having them altered.
These are BIG goals and YOU CAN HELP! Please contact us to volunteer or donate. Your time and effort is appreciated not only by us, but by the many animals that are cold and hungry, waiting to be found...
