Who We Are
Harnessed to Hope Northern Breed Rescue (HTHNBR) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming Northern Breed dogs in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. We are a non-profit organization as recognized by the Internal Revenue Service pursuant to Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. We do not have a kennel facility, our volunteers foster dogs in their private homes while trying to find permanent homes for them. We are a new group who just formed in November 2005, but our members have many years of rescue experience.

Have Some Spare Time?
Harnessed to Hope is currently looking for volunteers. If you are interested please click here for a volunteer application. Even if you can't foster dogs, there are still plenty of things you can do!
- Applications: Help us check adoption applications, call references, talk to potential adopters
- Adoptions: Bring the dogs to the homes of potential adopters.
- Events: Volunteer at the many meet and greets we do, explain our rescue to the public, sell merchandise
- Foster: Take a dog into your home until we can find them a permanent home
- Fundraising: We always need new fundraisers! Help with Ebay auctions, or think of a new fundraiser.
- Intake: Help us call shelters weekly to see what Northern Breeds are there, talk to owners who want to rehome their Northern Breed.
- Internet: Help us update our Petfinder site, and other sites where we list our dogs
- Volunteer: Help us check volunteer applications and call references.

Adopting a Northern Breed Companion
Are you thinking of adopting a northern breed dog? You can fill out our Adoption Application here. Once you have completed and submitted the application you will be contacted by an HTHNBR volunteer. They will discuss the adoption process with you and go over your application. We will then contact your personal and vet references. Once you are approved, an HTHNBR volunteer will contact you to discuss the dogs available for adoption and find candidates appropriate for your situation. We then schedule an adoption to bring 1-3 dogs to your home for you to meet and answer any questions you may have. We ask that all members of the household be home on the day of the adoption, including pets. If any dogs will be frequent visitors we ask that they try to be there as well. We will look to see that the home is safe and point out potential problem areas that you might not be aware of, and will ask you to fix any problems before we will leave a dog with you. Northern Breeds are escape artists, and very curious dogs, and we don't want them getting into something that can harm them, or getting out and running free on the street.
Our adoption fees are:
- $275 for puppies 6 months and under (with a $150 spay/neuter deposit)
- $235 for adults
- $75 for seniors 9 years and older
All foster dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations (DHLPP, rabies, bordatella) heartworm negative, on heartworm, flea and tick prevention, and microchipped.
