WHO WE ARE

Ratbone Rescues is a national rescue group based out of Florida. We are dedicated to helping Rat Terriers needing new homes because of homelessness, abandonment, neglect/abuse, or illness/injury. After being brought into our fosterhome network, rescued dogs receive thorough veterinary care (vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, microchip, plus any special needs) and plenty of TLC while we work to find new, loving, permanent homes.

MEET OUR RAT TERRIERS

Our adoptable Rat Terriers are located in private fosterhomes throughout the United States. The location of the fosterhome where a particular dog is living is indicated at the top of each dog's bio. This Petfinder site profiles Ratbone's Northeast Region dogs, which are living in fosterhomes in the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, & West Virginia. (Note that the Allentown, Pennsylvania, address is for administration only; the dogs are not actually located in Allentown.)

HOW TO ADOPT

Be sure to read all of the info below so that you know what to expect when applying to adopt. To inquire further about an adoptable dog you see listed here, please submit an adoption application.

When you apply to adopt a Ratbone Rescues dog, we take certain steps to ensure that this will be a permanent, loving relationship—both for you and for the "Rattie." Your patience and understanding are appreciated! After you submit an application, we reply to let you know that we have received your application and have notified the foster parent of the dog you are interested in. The foster parent will contact you with detailed information about the dog. Feel free to write back and forth as much as you like so that you can truly get to know the dog—both good aspects and not-so-perfect—before the final adoption decision. In many cases, pictures can be emailed to you.

Meanwhile, our volunteers are processing your application. They will check your references and set up a home visit to verify that yours is the best possible home for our rescued Rat Terrier. An Applications Coordinator will contact you for an interview to find out more about your expectations, your hopes and your plans for a new dog. This also gives you a chance to ask questions about rescue and adoption. After that, it is only a matter of time before you are notified to tell you if you have been approved to adopt a Ratbone Rattie.

Once you are approved we will email you an adoption contract to read, sign, and send back. With this contract you will send your adoption fee ($150 for adult dogs; $175 for puppies under 12 months old; and $200 for American Hairless Terriers). After your contract and fee have been received, we will begin planning to get your Rattie home to you! We usually help to arrange a ground transport, with a network of volunteer drivers. If the distance from the fosterhome to your home is greater than 600 miles, however, you will be asked to pay for your dog to be sent by air.

HELP RATBONE

Ratbone Rescues is an all-volunteer organization, and we can always use help! Can you pitch in?

• FOSTER — We can always use more foster homes to help us care for these little souls while they are waiting to be adopter. If you have a big heart—and a little extra time and space—and want to experience the soul-warming feeling of helping a needy fellow creature, consider joining our foster roster! Besides the personal satisfaction, you'll meet and interact with a network of super caring individuals who share your interests and your heart. For more information about becoming a foster parent, email apps@ratbonerescues.com. Or to apply to become a foster parent, please click here

DONATE — Ratbone Rescues is a non-profit organization funded only by our low adoption fees, the generosity of dog-loving donors, and the heard work of fund-raising volunteers. Money received from donations is used to pay for releasing a dog from a shelter or puppymill, surgeries, heartworm treatments, vaccinations, and other needed medical treatment. If you are able to make a donation of any size, it would be most gratefully appreciated! To donate, click here for check, money order, and Paypal options. The dogs thank you!

VOLUNTEER — Ratbone Rescues relies on volunteers for everything we do, including transports, home visits, follow-up phone calls, fund-raising, applications processing, and assisting with special training needs. If you can help us with needs in your geographic area, we urge you to let us know! Click here to submit a volunteer application.
