NEWS

A big thank you to all of our loyal patrons, friends and volunteers who help our shelter every day. We couldn't do it without you! <

2010 Lehigh County dog licenses are now available. Just come in, fill out the form located on the table in the lobby and give it to an associate behind the counter. Cost is $8.50 each.

We always have many animals in need of loving homes. We will attempt to post their descriptions and pictures here as often as possible. Please call first to see if an animal you're interested in is still available since this site is updated by a non-shelter volunteer. Please take the time to visit our shelter and see if you can find your next "forever friend". If you are interested in knowing more about one of our animals, please make note of THEIR ID NUMBER and refer to that when calling or visiting. When you call the shelter we will attempt to give you more information on the animals if available. THANK YOU!!!

Who We Are

The Lehigh County Humane Society is a non-profit, charitable organization, which means all gifts to the shelter are tax deductible. The shelter's goal is to reunite lost pets with their owners and to adopt out homeless pets into a new, loving, forever home. We provide a temporary home until a permanent one can be found. We also provide such services as a low cost spay/neuter clinic, vaccination clinics twice a year, education to the public on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets, and education on proper care of your pets. We also have a cruelty investigator to serve Lehigh County. Any cruelty complaints made are investigated and any action deemed necessary will be initiated.

Adopting a Friend

When you first visit the shelter the first step is to choose a pet. You can interact with the animal outside of his/her cage to help you make a decision. Next, an application needs to be filled out provided the animal is available for adoption. There is then a 24 hr. waiting period. This will enable us time to do vet reference checks, check with the landlords, and properly screen all applications. If your application is approved, you may pick up your new pet the day after it is spayed/neutered (at no additional cost to you). You just pay the token donation for the adoption fee.

DONATIONS

Animals rely totally on the kind and giving nature of humans. If you can donate any of the items on our wish list it will allow us to spend that much more on veterinary expenses which translates into our being able to save more lives. Since we have had our surgery clinic operational we are able to spay/neuter our animals before they leave our premises for their new adoptive homes, but this also comes with a price. If you wish to donate funds for the equipment and supplies especially for the clinic you may do so by indicating this on your check. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Here is just a partial "WISH LIST" of items most needed to furnish the shelter and care for our animals:

  • Copy paper
  • Flat screen computer monitors
  • TV with VCR !
  • File cabinets
  • Cages for animals (especially large ones)
  • Gas gift cards for our ambulance
  • Lockers for our staff and volunteers
  • Gift cards for Home Depot, Sam's Club, etc.
  • Sturdy table for examinations
  • Professional(commercial)dryer for grooming
  • Truck or van for animal pickups

Thank you for the items already donated

  • Any and all donations are greatly appreciated, be it dog or cat food, blankets and towels, grooming items, or any items that you think might be useful to us, please do not hesitate to give us a call or just drop it off if you are passing by. If you need ideas, please stop in the shelter or visit our homepage using the link below to see our "Wags To Wishes" list of needed cleaning supplies and miscellaneous items.

All donations are accepted whether it be $1.00, $5.00, $25.00, or more, the amount doesn't matter. Every little bit helps. You may designate your money to a special account such as the building fund for our new shelter, the Chance Fund for injured animals in need of vet care, or the general account which helps all of the homeless animals in the shelter.

Our animals, volunteers and workers thank you!!

    Volunteering

To volunteer at the Lehigh County Humane Society you need to be at least 18 yrs. of age. Just come to the shelter and fill out an application. Once your application has been reviewed, the shelter manager will then set up a schedule that will suit you. There are many volunteer opportunities, such as one on one with the animals, grooming, walking dogs, cleaning of kennels, and fundraising. We would also love to have professional groomers who could help our animals look their best.
