Who We Are
Central PA Pug Rescue is a small organization devoted to the welfare of unwanted and abandoned Pugs. We do not discriminate against age, health, or behavioral issues when it comes to helping a Pug in need, as these are the main reasons they are turned in to rescue in the first place. We will not turn away any Pug who needs help, no matter what issues he/she may have.
In Memory
Our rescue efforts are dedicated to the loving memory of Wheezer, who went to the Rainbow Bridge on February 2, 2005 after a short illness...Wheezer was by far one of the best dogs we've had in rescue, despite his health problems. We know that he is in a better place now, and he will always be in our hearts...
Adopting a Friend

Our dogs are extremely important to us, and we consider them part of our family. Each dog that comes into our rescue program is placed into an appropriate foster home. We get to know the dogs on a personal level, and find out their likes and dislikes, and what they need in a forever home. We place our dogs into homes that are appropriate for their needs. We strive to match the right dog into the right home. Sometimes the dog you are interested in may not be the right dog for you. The adoption process can be a lengthy one, but as our previous adopters will tell you, it's well worth the wait. Due to lack of volunteers at this time, we are restricted to adopting only within SOUTH CENTRAL PA.
FAQ
How do I begin the adoption process?
The first step in adopting a rescue Pug is to fill out an adoption application. Please email the rescue to receive a .doc copy of the application. We review each application carefully, and try to match the needs of the applicant to the dogs that we have available for adoption. A representative will contact you as soon as possible. Please remember that we are all volunteers and have families and jobs (and Pugs!) of our own.
What are the requirements for adopting a Pug?
Once your application has been approved, we require a home visit, adoption contract and adoption fee (contact us for specifics).
Pugs do have frequent health issues, including those with skin, breathing, eyes, hips, and knees. If you aren't aware of these health issues, PLEASE research the breed before you commit to owning one. You can start by visiting The Pug Dog Club of America
All of our Pugs receive the following before adoption:
- Vaccinations (DHLP & Rabies)
- Spaying/Neutering
- Heartworm Test
- Heartworm Preventative
- Microchip
- Physical Exam by a Licensed Veterinarian
- Fecal Analysis
Is there anyone you will not adopt a dog to?
Yes - we will not adopt to individuals who have animals who are not spayed/neutered. The only exceptions we make in this case are animals who are currently showing in conformation, or those who cannot be spayed/neutered due to a serious health issue. In that case, a letter from your veterinarian would be required. We also will not adopt to individuals who have dogs that live outside. Individuals who have been convicted of animal cruelty/neglect will not be considered. Anyone who falls into any of these categories need not apply.
What is the purpose of a home visit?
We conduct home visits to ensure that the Pugs we adopt will be living in suitable conditions, that they will not be outside dogs, and that the entire family is ready for the commitment of owning a Pug.

Surrendering a Pug
If you have a Pug that you need to surrender, please e-mail us. Be sure to provide your location, and basic information regarding the dog, such as physical characteristics, and personality traits. We will try to assist in any way we can, we just ask that you be honest about why you can no longer keep your Pug.
Donations and Volunteers Needed
We are always in need of donations, whether it be money, blankets, crates, harnesses, leashes, calling cards to help with processing applications...the list goes on and on. We are also in need of volunteers to assist us with phone calls, home visits, transports, foster homes, and computer assistance! If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the volunteer application. We appreciate any help that we can get!
