After all the ridiculous drama and personal hardships, thanks to some questionably insane people, we're finally able to return and get back to what we have always set out to do: help the ANIMALS, and the ANIMALS ***only***.
We've had someone break into our home - right in the middle of relocating the animals to friends in New York! The house was a mess!!! - in her insane attempt at "proving" our incompetence. Several events have forced us to change our policies, make the rules a lot more strict, and forever change our outlook on people. We've been so preoccupied at trying to help the people telling us some sob stories about why they need to give up their pet, that we lost track of the fact that even those behind the scenes - the people - need to be cared for too. We all stopped taking care of ourselves. As a result, we were all suffering from burn out. We all were ready to tell people to "solve your own problems" and "don't come to me with your pitiful stories". But it's not about those people is it? It's about the animals. So a lot of things will be different, but why should the animals suffer just because of a handful of hateful people?
The first of many changes is an important one:
We will no longer be taking in animals from private people or homes. Most of our problems have come from these situations. From now on we will only work at TNR (trap-neuter-return) cases, which means if a stray crosses our paths and needs veterinary care, and/or needs to be spayed or neutered, then we surely won't turn our backs on them. If the animal is adoptable, we'll try our best to find them a home. If not, the animal will be re-released, but at least will be unable to produce any more litters. We will no longer be returning calls to people looking to give up their pets.
We do not have a physical shelter! That's nothing different, but many of us (Yes, there ARE other people involved besides the 2 main caretakers in the organization!) had been trusting enough to allow people to know where we live. We will no longer allow people to see where our homes are. Again, we've learned the hard way that there are people out there with questionable mental stability, so for our safety and our own sanity, this will no longer be an option.
There is much more to go over, but more detail will be given once our website is up and running. We had to give up our website at catsbycorner.org due to some financial crisis, and as a result, some sneaky company has stolen our domain name! (If there are any lawyers out there familiar with this scenario, please contact us!) It's too much of a hassle right now to consider legal action, so we will be purchasing a new domain name. As soon as that happens, we'll announce it here on Petfinder.
The organization is a registered not-for-profit organization, still working on our 501(c)3 status (we've been quoted $2500 to get this done - it's too much $$$ for right now!), registered in the state of New York. As many of you know, we relocated a year ago to Pennsylvania. We're working on reorganizing and registering in the state of PA, which means we'll be forming a new Board of Directors. More on that once the website is established.
Finally, a question had been directed towards us. To answer that: NO, we have not now, nor have we EVER been to Rhode Island. We have not now, nor have we ever established ourselves as a rescue organization in the state of Rhode Island, or any other state for that matter, other than New York, and now of course Pennsylvania. We don't know anybody in that state, we have never even visited that state, and we have never been involved in anything animal related ANYWHERE, other than rescuing in New York and Pennsylvania, and working intensely at a veterinary hospital in N.Y.

We are a not-for-profit feline and small mammal rescue organization dedicated to rescuing cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small mammals from abusive situations and/or a life on the streets. We provide shelter, medical care, rehabilitation, socialization, love and attention (to name a few!) Permanent homes are carefully screened for suitability between the animal and their potential "purrents".
Catsby's Corner is run in private homes, which means that we do not have a public physical shelter, and so we have several foster homes involved, insuring quality care and attention. We are in the process of becoming a 501(c)3 corporation, however we are an incorporated not-for-profit rescue organization registered in New York state as of 2001. We are working on establishing the group in Pennsylvania.
We are located in Northwestern Pennsylvania, about 96 miles outside of Buffalo, NY, 99 miles outside of Cleveland, OH, 127 miles outside of Pittsburgh, PA and 210 miles outside of Toronto, Ont., Canada.
