IN MEMORIAM
"Bonnie Blue was a fun and silly squirrel-hunter. She was adopted in Arkansas where she lived for 8 yrs before moving to the Big Apple. Her favorite things were her people, long walks, and of course pup-treats. She captured the hearts of many; there is even a song written about her. Bonnie especially liked it when her people would laugh at her or dance around. She was, just a relaxed, well loved dog, who enjoyed many a pillow and comfy couch. She had a full life of adventure and most of all lots and lots of love."
*Catahoula Rescue North East would like to thank Bonnie Blue's owners for their generous donation to our cause, and more importantly for giving Bonnie Blue the love and care that they provided her during her life here with them. She is waiting for you (unless she's busy chasing squirrels!) at the bridge.
Who We Are
The Catahoula Rescue Network is a coalition of Independent Catahoula rescue groups across the United States. Catahoula Rescue, Inc. is a newly incorporated, nonprofit organization that works with the Rescue Network. We are an all volunteer organization. The mission of Catahoula Rescue, Inc. is to advocate for homeless Catahoulas and Catahoula mixes, to place these animals in permanent, loving homes, and to promote responsible guardianship through humane education.
Catahoula Rescue saves dogs from death row at animal shelters and pounds, rehabilitates them if necessary, provides medical care, including spaying and neutering, and then fosters these dogs in volunteer foster homes until a suitable forever home can be found. We also assist responsible Catahoula owners if they must find a new home for their dog. We can offer advice and options that might make it possible for the dog to stay with his family. If it is still necessary to rehome the dog, we will list him/her on our available pets page as long as they are up to date on their vaccinations and spayed or neutered. Because of the flood of dogs coming from shelters, it is unlikely that we can provide a foster home for an owner surrendered dog.
Catahoula Rescue does NOT maintain a central "shelter", where our foster dogs are kept in kennel areas. All of the dogs that come into our care, go to various foster homes throughout the North East region of the United States. The location of the foster home is listed in each dog's individual ad.
Catahoula Rescue receives no funds from other groups or government sources. Our work is paid for by donations, adoption fees, and the volunteers themselves. For more information, please visit the Catahoula Rescue Network website. Donation can be made via the paypal link at the top of this page. Every dollar helps save a dogs' life!
Adopting a friend
All dogs are spayed or neutered and up to date on rabies, DHLPP, and bordetella vaccinations. Some are microchipped. Adoption fees help to offset expenses incurred in rescue. These fees range from $150. - $200. The first step in adopting a Catahoula is to fill out an adoption application. An application can be obtained by contacting Mary at info@catahoularescue.com or ONLINE at: www.catahoularescue.com We have dogs coming into rescue on a continual basis; so if we don't have the one your looking for now, check back or fill out an application, and we will notify you when a dog fitting your description comes into rescue.
Volunteers and Fosters needed
Catahoula Rescue, Inc. needs volunteers to help save these great dogs. We need people not only to help foster dogs, but to assist in many other ways. This includes transporting, checking shelters, photographing dogs, helping with placement, assisting at adoption days, public relations, computer help and fund raising. If you are interested in volunteering to help us save these dogs, please contact northeast@catahoularescue.com
Contact Information
If you are interested in adopting a Catahoula or Catahoula mix, or you would like to help us save these dogs, please contact the Catahoula Rescue Network regional coordinator closest to you. If you are interested in a particular dog on our available pets page, contact the person listed on that dog's page. Not all dogs listed on the pets page are in the care of Catahoula Rescue. Some dogs are listed for their current owners, while others are still in shelters. Placement of the shelter dogs is usually urgent as they are only given a limited time to be adopted before being killed. If you can foster a shelter dog, please contact our foster coordinator, at northeast@catahoularescue.com
