Who We Are

Animal Keepers Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill shelter for cats. When they are first brought in, the cats are taken to the vet for a checkup and are tested for Feline Leukemia. All cats 6 months and older are spayed/neutered, given their vaccinations, and wormed. Young kittens are given their first vaccinations and are wormed. A low cost spay/neuter plan is also offered to those that adopt kittens so ask for details. Feline Leukemia positive cats are not put to sleep. We have found that with these cats, when they are given good cat food and vitamins, they can fight the Feline Leukemia virus and live a happy life. We have retested some of these cats after 6 months and they show up Feline Leukemia negative. All cats are given a hooded litter pan in a carpeted cage.

Adopting a friend

When adopting one of our cats/kittens, you will receive a contract. We have several guidelines that we hope that you would follow: all cats must be kept indoors. Kittens adopted out before the age of 6 months must be neutered or spayed by the time they reach 6 months of age. We do not permit declawing of our cats. You can check out more of the guidelines on our website: www.animalkeepersrescue.org There is a $65 adoption fee for kittens and $80.00 for adults. Each adoption fee is list on Petfinder with the cat's information.

We offer a low cost spay/neuter clinic in conjunction with Animal Friends of Pittsburgh. A spay is $60 and a neuter is $50. Price includes surgery, rabies vaccine and a flea and ear mite treatment. Clinics are once a month July through October. Call Patty at 724-547-6421 for details and to sign up. Only 25 cats accepted per clinic and cats must be at least 5 months. Clinics are held in the Mt Pleasant, PA area.
