Because You Care will be at PetsMart in Erie, the first Saturday of each month from 11am until 2pm with pets for viewing.
Spay/Neuter magnets for your car are our hottest new big sellers. These magnets are cute but still get the message across to spay and neuter pets. Just contact us and we can mail one out to you for $5.60. Help spread the word!
Our volunteer organization rescues strays and abandoned pets in Erie, PA and surrounding areas. All of our pets receive necessary veterinary care, including vaccinations and are spayed or neutered at our expense at the appropriate age. Pets are kept in volunteer foster homes, not in a shelter, with all expenses paid by BYC until they are adopted into new homes.
All potential families are screened and interviewed. We try to match the personality of the pet to the characteristics of the adoptive family.
Prospective adopters fill out an application. If there are other pets in the home, veterinary references are required to ensure all vaccinations and health concerns are up to date. The prospective home is visited and if it seems a good match, the pet is placed and the family signs an agreement to keep the pet indoors, maintain his/her vaccinations and provide a good home. Pets are visited after placement and representatives maintain contact to deal with any questions or problems that may arise. Please fill out the on-line adoption form on the BYC website, when requesting information about a certain pet.
We ask a donation fee (for cats OVER 6 months old) of $50 for one cat or $75 for two cats adopted together. For cats 6 months or YOUNGER we ask $65 for one kitten or $90 for two kittens adopted at the same time. For dogs we ask a donation fee (for dogs OVER 6 months old) of $75 for one dog or $100 for two dogs adopted together. For dogs 6 months or YOUNGER we ask $90 for one puppy or $140 for two puppies adopted at the same time. While this in no way reimburses us for the total cost of care, it does help offset some costs.
