Hazleton Animal Shelter

The Hazleton Animal Shelter is working hard to reunite lost pets and their owners, and adopt out any animals that come here. We are dedicated to helping animals find new homes or a rescue to take them. Adoption hours are available 5 days a week. Because of our size, we are unable to accept owner surrenders; all of our animals are lost or stray, and would love to have someone to call their very own. All of our animals must be spayed or neutered as per state law.

Adopting a friend

To adopt a puppy/dog the adoption fee is $100.00. They will be microchipped as well. If the dog is not spayed or neutered prior to adoption, you will receive a $30.00 refund with proof of spay or neuter.

To adopt a kitten/cat the adoption fee is $60.00. All cats are feline leukemia tested and given a micro chip before being adopted. If the cat/kitten isn't spayed/neutered prior to adoption, you will receive a $20.00 refund with proof of spay/neuter.

All perspective adopters must complete an application, complete with vet references (or recent shot records), and personal references. If you don't have a pet yet, 2-3 personal references will be needed.

If you would like to take your new pet home with you the same day you visit, please BE PREPARED - we MUST check vet and personal references before your new friend can be yours. Please bring recent shot records you have for current pets or a letter from your vet, and several phone numbers for your references. Also if you rent your home, you must provide your landords name and telephone number.

Come Visit Us!

From I-81, take EXIT 141 towards Hazleton. Continue straight until the second red light. That is Poplar St. Make left at the second red light and follow until you come to a stop sign where you have to cross Broad St to continue on Poplar St. The shelter is back about 2-3 blocks on your right hand side.

Coming from the South (Rt. 93), follow 93N and as you come down into Hazleton, you'll see 2 gas stations on the right. The first right is Poplar St. (at the RR tracks). Make the right, and go to the end of the street. We're on the right.

The shelter is open 5 days a week, except Holidays and Sundays and Wednesdays. They ARE OPEN Monday,Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays- 1-4PM for adoptions. Someone is in the building the 5 days they are open from 8 AM until 4 PM getting the animals their medications, and other things needed to run the shelter completed.
