The Huntingdon County Humane Society, located in Huntingdon, PA, is a 501c3 open- admissions shelter. Our shelter takes in stray, abused, abandoned and surrendered animals from Huntingdon and Mifflin Counties. Most of our animals are dogs and cats, but we do on occasion offer refuge to other small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, or the like. Our shelter is open 11-4 every day except Sundays, holidays and during inclement weather.
DON'T THROW AWAY EMPTY INK JET AND LASER CARTRIDGES!
Send them to the Huntingdon County Humane Society to help us earn money for pet-related needs. Empty ink jet and laser cartridges can be reused. For each recyclable cartridge you give us, the Huntingdon County Humane Society will receive a cash refund that could add up to much needed funds. And it is good for the environment, too!! So ask your friends, relatives and neighbors to save their empties for you to bring to us!! Please note: not all cartridges are recyclable. At this time we cannot accept any cartridges made by or for Epson printers. Thank you!
Thanks also to the Altoona Mirror, the Lewistown Sentinel and the Huntingdon Daily News for printing weekly pictures of adoptable animals as a public service. If you would like to become a member of the Humane Society please contact the shelter and someone will send you an application.
Jr. Membership (under 18) $5.00, Individual $10.00, Business $100.00, Lifetime (individual) $100, Lifetime (couple) $150.00, Senior (over 65) $5.00, Family $20.00.
You will need to fill out an adoption application at the shelter. It is required that you provide four references.
If you do not own the property where you live, we will need the information on how to contact the owner.
There is a minimum waiting period of twenty-four hours before an adoption is finalized. This is mainly to try and prevent impulsive adoptions and to give us time to contact references. You may request an application via email or stop by the shelter and fill out an application to have on file. If you have filled out an application and been pre-approved to adopt a shelter animal the 24 hour waiting period is waived.
If your application is turned down, you may request a committee review.
If approved, you will sign a contract and pay appropriate fees.
The S.A.C. program is set up to enhance donations. For $25 per month, you may sponsor a cage with a small plaque.
The plaque will be engraved however you like.
Sponsor in the name of a pet, friend, family member, or yourself. To sponsor a cage, contact us at the shelter.
