Atherton Kennels & Shelter
is the Official Animal Shelter for Our shelter has been in this location for over 30 years and was started by Jim and Marcella Atherton, grandparents of the current owners. Jim and Marcella took what at one time was a run down dairy barn and turned it into an animal shelter that took in 271 dogs its first year in existence. Although our numbers are not yet complete it appears that we had over 1400 dogs come through the doors of our shelter in 2004. We do only accept dogs and receive strays from all of the areas that we contract with as well as many other dogs from surrounding areas. |

We also accept owner surrendered dogs. We are working constantly too find great and long lasting homes for our canine guests, and have set a goal for ourselves this year to double our adoptions. We are also working to have more animals reclaimed and are licensing for Malheur County. The new 2006 licenses are currently available at our shelter. Adopting A Friend We are rarely at a loss for Adoptable Dogs that are in need of
a new loving home. We receive mixed breeds, and purebreds, puppies
and seniors, well taken care of and abused animals. Some dogs are
trained, some need training. They are big and small, short and long-haired.
They come from many different circumstances and places. Some come
with a name and information, many do not. To Contact Us Atherton Kennels is located on 2.8 acres of land on Highway 201 between Ontario, Oregon and Nyssa, Oregon. We are open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We will accommodate people after hours by appointment.
