Roxy

Roxy is a Merle Dane with Addison's Disease. She came to us because her mommy couldn't keep her anymore. AD is easily managed and Rox is stable. She is on daily medication for her AD, but the meds are controlling the AD very well. She will have to be on her meds the rest of her life. Her meds run about $35 a month. Rox is sweet and very affectionate. She is not very socially adept with other dogs. She often gets into squabbles because she wants to play with the other dogs but doesn't know how to go about it, and then gets intimidated and defensive. She wants other dogs to believe she is a dominant personality and will try to be the boss with other dogs, which doesn't help, especially since she doesn't really believe she's the boss of anything and the other dogs sense this. She is also going to try to boss around her owners too. Not at all aggressively, she will just try to act the Princess and be the boss. You have to stay on top of her, and you have to keep it clear in her mind who is in charge. She would be fine with some dogs and not suitable with others. Mind you, I say that but she currently lives with 11 other dogs and is doing fine. But we do have to keep an eye on her sometimes, see the warnings that things are getting out of hand, and verbally intervene before they do. Rox, also loving known around here as box o Rox, is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. There are times when it is easy to expect too much of her. But she is also good at playing dumber than she is sometimes. She's sort of your typical JAP (Jewish American Princess - no religious slurs intended by this). She's not a big dog as Danes go. Actually on the petite side. Rox can see and hear just fine. Rox really wants to please and be your special good girl, and this makes working with her easier. She is very affectionate and will take up the entire bed if you let her, draping herself all over you. She's a very nice girl and will make a nice companion for the right person or family. She's not foolproof or bombproof as they say in the horse world. But she's not a grenade either. She is just a nice sweet dog, who lost her mommy and her home and doesn't understand why.
