Curry County Animal Shelter / Pennies for Pooches/
WHO ARE WE ?
Pennies for Pooches/ Curry County Animal Shelter is the agency for all of Curry County for dog licensing and the agency to care for all the unwanted and orphaned dogs that are placed in the county shelter. The staff and volunteers try very hard to find new and better homes for the animals that are received. Pennies for Pooches is the 501c3 that runs Curry County Animal Shelter as the County has ran out of goverment funding. Pennies for Pooches will continue to provide the shelter animals with their medical needs, food and giving them a home like setting until the perfect human come in to adopt them.
The Curry County Animal Shelter is proud to be a no-kill shelter. Only animals too ill or severely injured are euthanized. When over-crowding becomes a problem, volunteers take the dogs to the Oregon Humane Society giving them a larger population to draw from for their adoption. All those taken so far have found new families. Pennies for Pooches just started rescuing dog from high kill shelter in California and pulling dogs from Oregon's red alert lists. We are happy to be working with other shelters to help get dogs placed or transfered for a second chance. Shelters working together gives dogs /cats a better chance of getting a forever home.
The shelter collects grocery receipts (Ray's Food Place, McKay's Market,- all local stores of the county). Mail or drop them off at the shelter; these all earn extra income to help with expenses (and they DO help!) . Proceeds from all these receipts go to our spay/neuter program sponsored by Pennies for Pooches, the non profit behind the shelter. Pennies for Pooches pays for all the medical needs for the dogs pays the shipping cost on the food. Pennies is a 501c3 and any donations may be sent to P.O Box 1883 Gold Beach, Or 97444 Check out Pennies for Pooches web site at www.penniesforpooches.com
We offer with EACH adoption; a FREE doggie gift bag (GREAT COUPONS, ETC.) provided by Petfinder, Science diet dog food to help your dogs diet stay balanced and when you leave our shelter we will provide you with everything our dog will need to make the transition from our house to your house smooth. Woof's Dog Bakery, located in Brookings and Gold Beach gives you a 10% discount for adopting from our shelter. Upon adopiton a license, if you live in our County, will be issued to your dog. This helps keep the shelter alive and your dog safe. Adoption fee depends on the dog. All dogs that leave our shelter are up to date on all shots including rabies and are spayed/neutered. Our local veterinarians, Gold Beach Vet, Brookings Harbor Vet and Town and Country have jumped on board and will provide a wellness exam free of charge when you adopt from our shelter. ALL of our dogs and cats ARE spayed/neutered before they leave our facility unless prior arangements are made. We feel spaying and neutering is the only way to put an end to the millions of animals that die every year in high kill shelters.
You can license your dog with proof of Rabies immunization at our animal shelter, local vets, City Halls in Brookings and Port Orford, and at Pampered Pooches in Port Orford, Pam Paws in Gold Beach or Woof's Dog Bakery both Brooking and Gold Beach Stores. Remember, licensing your pet can assure his/her safe return to you should they become lost as well as helping support our community goal of responsible ownership.

WE RECEIVE 'NEW DOGS' EVERY DAY LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME AND FAMILY! IIf you are ever wondering what the shelter needs? We are always in need of bleach. It is a fast moving item at the shelter. We take any kind of bleach. Canned dog food and chew bones are something the dogs love to have.
We are located in beautiful Gold Beach, Oregon at the mouth of the famous Rogue River. Gold Beach is located about 35 miles north of the California border on Hwy 101 on the breath taking Oregon Coast. The drive is well worth the trip; you'll enjoy the scenic trip along the beautiful Oregon Coast. Then you can ADOPT a new family member or just help the dogs out by taking one for a 'BEACH WALK'! We are open everyday from 10am-4pm for your convenience. September 1, 2012 Pennies for Pooches signed the contract with the county to run the shelter. We are no longer government funded and rely on adoptions and donations to run the shelter and provide a safe place for the homeless animals.
