News

The PAWS Program is sponsored by the animal-friendly non-profit group, PAWSitive Changes, Inc. See what PAWSitive things are happening in your community!!!

Who We Are

The PAWS Program (People & Animals Worth Saving) pairs homeless dogs from the Josephine County Animal Shelter with incarcerated youth. The youth provide socialization, care, and obedience training for the dogs to prepare them for adoption into new homes. The principles of compassion, caring, positive reinforcement, volunteerism and empathy are central to the programís mission. Youth learn how to feel good about themselves and their work. This program has proven to be a win-win situation for everyone involved. We want to thank you for considering the rescue of a shelter animal. The PAWS Program strives to locate forever homes for our dogs that are willing to give an animal a second chance in life. The youth working with these dogs feel productive in their programs and have a positive connection to a society that they once felt alienated from. Their ability to become compassionate members of society and demonstrate empathy for another is what this program is all about. Without people like you, we could not meet this mission.
