Included with the cost of adoption, all adopting families receive:

  • A goodie bag filled with product samples
  • Dollar off coupons for food and pet related services at local establishments
  • Helpful information and literature on feeding, training and care of their new family member

$ 53
Dogs that arrive fertile and are spayed or neutered while
in our care

$113
Dogs that arrived fertile and leave the shelter fertile

$130

Adopters that adopt a fertile animal will be given information on how they can obtain a low-cost spay/neuter procedure for that dog. If they return to the kennel within 30 days with a receipt for that procedure on their adopted pet, CCDC will arrange to have a refund check of $40.00 mailed to their home. (Some veterinarians will deduct $40 from the cost of their spay/neuter invoice so that families do not need to bring the receipt to us. If your vet deducts $40 from the spay/neuter bill you paid, no additional refund will be provided by Dog Services.) If adopters chose not to have their pet spayed/neutered, Clackamas County retains the $40.00 "deposit" in anticipation of future costs that will be created when that dog produces unwanted puppies.

*Occasionally, Clackamas County Dog Services inoculates dogs with a one-year Rabies Vaccination. If the dog has been vaccinated for Rabies, add $10.00 to the costs listed above .

*Each Application requires a $10.00 non-refundable deposit that will be applied to your adoption fees when you find your perfect pet within 6 months.

NOTE: All dogs leave our shelter with a Clackamas County Dog License. If owners live outside of Clackamas County or within city limits, they will have to license their dog in their area. Check with your city or county about their licensing requirements. CCDC insists that all dogs who leave our shelter be licensed by us in case the dog gets away from its new owners before it has been properly licensed in its home area.

Cats: Our shelter does not have the facilities to accept large numbers of cats. We do occasionally have cats available for adoption when local cat rescue facilities are full.

The fees associated with cat adoptions are the same as dogs, based on spay/neuter status. Fees include the adoption fee, a spay/neuter fee or deposit (if appropriate) and a supplies charge, to permit us to pay for the unique supplies needed by cats.

Return Policy: The adopters have 30 days in which to return the dog to the shelter for an exchange should the newly adopted dog not work out for the family.

*Petco Adoption Gift Book Program: If you have adopted a dog or cat from us or any other animal welfare organization, Petco is offering you a FREE Adoption Gift Booklet that includes savings on supplies for your pet, which includes free pet food. To receive your Adoption Gift Booklet, you need only bring your adoption papers to any Petco store and you'll receive a coupon book. Please contact their customer service line at (800) 571-2952 with any questions or problems.

Although the listed dogs were available when the page was last updated, some may no longer be available as they may have been claimed by their owner or adopted.

We also run a Foster Program.

Clackamas County Dog Services annually receives for shelter more than 2,000 dogs. We have a very active adoption program, work closely with various breed rescue and various local shelter and Humane Societies, space limitations do no always allow us to care for all adoptable dogs and cats as long as might be necessary to find them good homes.

The Foster Program was established to help us address this need. Selected adoptable dogs and cats are placed with qualified individuals -- often animal rescue organizations - who agree to provide both home and care to the animals, providing love and continued socialization and assistance in locating a permanent adoptive home for animal.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATION/PROCEDURES

  • Applicants must themselves be in compliance with State and County Dog Control laws. They must have current licenses for any dogs they own.

  • Applicants must complete the information requested on Clackamas County Dog Service's standard Adoption Agreement form. Once the Adoption Agreement form is completed and submitted to Dog Services Staff, the applicant will be interviewed by shelter staff to ensure the applicant has the requisite knowledge and skills to properly care for fostered animals.

  • A premise inspection shall be required for all new Foster Applicants. This inspection is to ensure that the animal will have adequate, enclosed areas in which to live and exercise. Although Clackamas County Dog Services will foster only apparently healthy animals, the manner in which animals are initially received by us necessarily involves a risk that they may develop contagious diseases. An isolation area is strongly suggested, at least initially.

  • If the applicant is a renter, written consent for fostering must be obtained from the landlord, a copy of which must be provided to Clackamas County Dog Services.

  • The applicant must complete and sign a Foster Pet Agreement.

  • Applicants must agree: (1) it is the sole judgment of Clackamas County Dog Services if the animal to be placed will be spayed/neutered prior to placement; (2) the applicant shall have a licensed veterinarian inoculate any adults (6 months or older) dog against rabies; and (3) provide any other necessary and appropriate vaccinations and/or medical care. Due to serious budget constraints we are unable to reimburse foster parents for costs of veterinary services or any other costs related to the keeping of foster animals. Applicants must agree to absorb these costs themselves. Applicant agrees to provide us with copies of all documents from veterinarian visits, including inoculations, exams, etc.

  • Should a foster family locate a suitable adoptive family, the prospective adoptive family must submit to Dog Services a completed Adoption Application and Agreement form. Prospective adoptive families must meet all adoption criteria of Clackamas County Dog Services.

  • Foster families agree to not deliver fostered animals to any other person, unless so directed by Clackamas County Dog Services Staff. If Foster families are no longer able to care for an animal, they must return the animal to Clackamas County Dog Services.

  • Approval of Foster applicants and selection of appropriate animals for fostering, is exclusively within the discretion of Clackamas County Dog Services Staff.

  • Foster applicants agree to hold Clackamas County, Clackamas County Dog Services, its employees, officers and elected officials harmless for any damage, injury or harm resulting, directly or indirectly from the fostering of any animal.
