Shibas4Life is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization providing Education, Training, and Rescue Resources for
Shiba Inus throughout Oregon and Washington. We live in Beavercreek, Oregon, and run our rescue with a handful of volunteers and guided direction through our Board Members. We are not a shelter facility. Our fosters are among homes learning to be active family members in environments exposed to other dogs, older children, and possibly cats. We work with each dog actively from day one of intaking.
Our major goal is to prevent people from purchasing or adopting this breed if it's not the right breed for you. We will match-up Shibas to the perfect home that meet the dog's needs and will accept nothing less. Home visits are required and a contract is in place for adoption.

On average six out of every ten Shibas we have in rescue are rehomed because the owners did not do enough prior research and bought the dog due to its' attractive looks and size. We do not recommend this breed with children under 5 years old unless children and dog are supervised at all times. This breed will not tolerate being smothered which includes being pulled on, sat on, cornered and may be bitten if pushing them beyond limits. We do not recommend this breed to a new dog owners unless you are willing to put the time in for training and have an active lifestyle for the dog. A Shiba will run off if children leave a door open and they're not easy to catch due to their independence and hunting instinct. The Shiba is an active breed with a big dog's personality and requires good exercise, training and a regular flexible schedule.
