Our Pet List

Our Featured Pet...

Chester - a 10 year old Shepherd cross male. He was found by animal services starving at the lake and brought to their shelter. He has since been taken over by us where he is now on the mend and gaining some weight. He will be going into foster care shortly where we hope he will only have to spend a couple of weeks before he can be adopted. He is a very sweet older boy who loves affection. For more information about him please call our shelter at 905-433-2022 ext. 3.

Who We Are

The Humane Society of Durham Region is a registered charity. We investigate complaints of animal cruelty and neglect from Pickering to Newtonville and north to Thorah Island. We are an affiliate of the Ontario S.P.C.A. We euthanize for terminal illness and extreme aggression only. We do not euthanize animals for the length of stay, we are not an animal control. We operate a small food bank for animals out of the shelter. Our animals come to us through our investigations department, through their owners when they can't be looked after anymore and also from other organizations. We receive no government funding. We exist upon your donations only.

Adopting A Friend

All cats and dogs leave our shelter upto date with vaccinations and you will receive a copy of the records, this also includes deworming and and flea prevention. We DO NOT provide a rabies vaccination or animal licensing.

All dogs and cats over 6 months of age are neutered or spayed before leaving the shelter. If the surgery has yet to taken place by the time of your adoption the animal will have to stay in our care until the surgery is complete.

You have the option of taking your new friend home if you choose to have the surgery done through your own Vet Clinic and incur all expenses.

We will reimburse you $65 on a cat spay/neuter or $105 for a dog spay/neuter. This will be given to you through Visa or debit card when you bring in your proof of Casteration from your Vet Clinic.
