Featured Pet

Hi, there! My name is Oscar, and as you can see, I am a very cute Jack Russell / Beagle mix. I weigh about 18 pounds, I am 2 years old, super healthy, with all my shots up to date, and neutered. I am cheerful, devoted, well-trained, and smart! I know lots of commands and a couple of tricks, and I am always eager to learn more for a treat and a belly rub! I am house-trained. I am fine in my crate for a few hours and sometimes sleep in my crate with the door open at night. I do not like being left alone, and I bark for a little while, but I am learning not to. I love to run and play with my dog buddies and with my people. I know my legs are short, but do not let that fool you. I can go on a 10K hike or play all day in the dog park, easy. Do not worry, I am not hyper. As long as I get my exercise, I am really well-behaved in the house, and smart enough to amuse myself if you are busy. I am good with cats inside (but outside ... sometimes I BARK at them). I like almost everyone I meet, human or canine. I am not perfect; sometimes I bark at loud sounds or people that worry me, or dogs that smell funny, but I am pretty good and I am learning to be even better. One thing you should know,I am very protective of my home! I am not yappy, but I will definitely let you know if a stranger is at the door. Best of all: I am a very loving and lovable dog! This is what my mum says:

We adopted Oscar in the spring, and everything he says is true. We love him dearly and he loves us, but we have come to accept that he would be better off in a different type of house. We rent out two flats in our downtown house, and Oscar finds the sound of our tenants coming and going to be very worrisome. We want to find him a loving home on a quieter street, in a house with a secure yard, with people who will continue to train him, take him on walks and visits to the dog park, and not leave him alone all day every day;he is too sociable for that. He is fine as the only dog, but would be a good second dog, too. He is truly an amazing companion that will shower you with love and make you smile every day!

If you feel you can give Oscar a safe and loving home please see the online application on our website (www.adoptadogsavealife.com). We will only consider homes with children 12 years and older. We have an adoption process we follow which includes an application, a home visit, reference checks and a meeting with the dog. An adoption fee applies.

FOSTER HOMES...FOSTER HOMES...FOSTER HOMES... We are in desperate need of volunteers and foster homes. If you think you can help us by providing a loving foster home or if you would like to volunteer by screening calls and/or transporting pets, please call us. Your gift of time is GREATLY appreciated. Adopt-a-Dog/Save-a-Life is a non-profit, volunteer organization. Your donations can help save lives. Every dollar counts. Thank you for your generosity.

*** WHO WE ARE ***

Every year, thousands of abandoned dogs die in pounds across Canada. People can't resist a cute puppy in the pet shop window... But when the puppy grows up, it becomes too much bother... And ends up on "Death Row" at the pound because the owner has grown tired of the novelty. Ontario pounds are only required to keep dogs 72 hours before killing them, or turning them over for live experimentation, so most abandoned dogs have little chance of survival. Adopt-a-Dog/Save-a-Life's mission is to find loving permanent homes for these dogs. Last year alone, Adopt-a-Dog saved 452 abandoned dogs from almost certain death.
