Who We Are

The Northumberland Humane Society is a small, non-profit animal shelter. At any one time, we can house over 18 dogs and over 25 cats. Although we are not a "no-kill" shelter, our animals are usually kept until they are adopted.
The Northumberland Humane Society recieves no government funding, or funding of any kind. We rely solely on donations from generous people like you! Any and all donations are greatly appreciated!

We do not operate animal control, nor do we take in stray animals. If you have lost or found an animal in the Northumberland area, please call the Shelter of Hope at 905-885-7808, which is located on Theater Rd., in Cobourg. If you are outside of this area, please call your local animal control or pound.

Adopting a Friend

Once you've chosen to adopt one of our animals we will ask you to fill out an adoption form which will take 1-2 days to process, in which case you will either be approved or declined. When approved, the animal (if of age) will be sent to a vet in our area to be spayed or neutered. After the animal has recovered, you will be called to come and pick him/her up. The prices of our animals are as follows:

Kittens - $160.00 Puppies - $250.00 Cats - $120.00 Dogs - $200.00 This fee includes the animal being spayed/neutered, the first vaccinations, rabies vaccinations (if 4 months or older), flea treatment, de-worming, and a bath if necessary.
