Georgina Animal Control & Adoption Centre is the facility which provides shelter to all cats and dogs found running at large within the municipal borders of Georgina, East Gwillimbury, Whitchurch Stouffville and Newmarket. Animals not claimed by an owner are assessed, then placed up for adoption if deemed adoptable.
Our shelter is now using the website www.helpinglostpets.com to post all cats and dogs we pick up as strays. If you have lost your cat or dog, please immediately visit the website to see if your pet is listed there. Register your cat or dog as lost there (see link to site below) in as much detail as possible, including pictures, and then contact our shelter. Found pets should also be posted on the website. We encourage people to visit the shelter to look for their lost pet, whenever possible, as verbal descriptions of lost pets may not distinguish them from other animals presently in our shelter. After all, no one knows your pets as well as you do! Strays are held for 5 business days before moved to adoption. Ultimately, our goal is to reunite as many lost pets with their owners as possible. We appreciate your assistance and understanding in this matter.
Our Winter hours have just started. The Shelter will be open 8:00 am until 12:00 pm on Saturdays. When you are calling after shelter hours for a contained dog or cat, make sure you are pressing the Animal Services option (option 2). This will take you to the paging system and an Officer will contact you. All messages left at the shelter may not be returned until Monday.
The staff at our shelter strive to find excellent new families for the many homeless cats and dogs that find their way to our shelter. Not all animals entering our shelter have perfect behaviour or manners. The majority of the pets we place up for adoption have no known history. We can only assess them by the behaviour we see during their stay at our facility. For this reason, we must assess all potential adopters for suitability for the cat or dog in question. We desperately want these animals to have a home that can provide the love and stability they deserve the second time around. We hope the general public will recognize and understand our plight, and appreciate our efforts to help these animals to the best of our abilities. Please feel free to contact our toll free number, 1-800-898-8606, if you see a pet you are interested in. We would be more than happy to discuss their personality and needs with any potential new family!

We would like to let everyone know the 2013 Municipal License tags are available for purchase for Whitchurch/Stouffville, Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Georgina. Anyone who has questions or requires information on where they can be purchased may contact Animal Control at 1-800-898-8606. The money collected through the purchase of municipal licensing is used to pay for the animal services for your area and the cost to keep the shelter open. The municipal law requires the licence to be purchased before February 28th. Failure to purchase by this date can result in a $130 fine per pet! If you have not purchased your 2013 licence, please do so as soon as possible to avoid being fined.
DONATIONS GRACIOUSLY ACCEPTED!!!
Wish you could make a difference but don't know how? We accept donations from private citizens and/or businesses, such as dog & cat food (canned and dry), cat litter, old blankets, sheets or towels, pet toys, new or gently used leashes and collars, basic medical supplies (such as bandage material, rubbing alcohol, antibiotic ointments etc.), new or gently used travel carriers or crates (all sizes), and kitten milk supplement.
Still want to do more? Cash donations are used towards medical bills for the animals. The more we have, the more we can make a difference! Why not try a fundraiser at the office, with proceeds to be donated to our animal shelter! It could make all the difference in the world to a dog or cat in need!
We have implemented a new program in which all adult dogs and cats will be vaccinated, Microchipped and spayed or neutered before entering their new homes. Our adoption fee for dogs is $250 +tax and cats are $150 +tax. A license is required for adopters in our municipalities.
Puppies and kittens will be adopted at full cost and we will provide a future date for vaccines, microchip and spay or neuter.
We are desperately seeking foster homes for pregnant, lactating mothers and orphan kittens. If you are interested, please contact the shelter. We will provide neccesary equipment and help if required.
We are located 1 hour north of Toronto. Take Woodbine north to Baseline road, turn left on Civic Centre rd.
Still lost? We encourage everyone interested in visiting to use a web based map locator for further directional instructions. However, if you do require further assistance, please feel free to contact the shelter for more detailed directions.
