Georgina Animal Shelter and Adoption Centre

Join us for THE CAT DAYS OF SUMMER!! Significantly reduced adoption fees for cats and kittens from August 9th to September 9th, 2014. Adult cat adoption fees are $50 each and kitten adoption fees are $75 each. We have many, many lovely felines waiting for their furever homes.

Who We Are

Georgina Animal Shelter & Adoption Centre is the facility which provides shelter to all cats and dogs found running at large within the municipal borders of Georgina, East Gwillimbury, Whitchurch Stouffville and Newmarket. Animals not claimed by an owner are assessed, then placed up for adoption if deemed adoptable.

Our shelter is now using the website www.helpinglostpets.com to post all cats and dogs who arrive at the shelter as strays. If you have lost your cat or dog, please immediately visit the website to see if your pet is listed there. Register your cat or dog as lost there (see link to site below) in as much detail as possible, including pictures, and then contact animal control. Found pets should also be posted on the website. We encourage people to visit the shelter to look for their lost pet, whenever possible, as verbal descriptions of lost pets may not distinguish them from other animals presently in our shelter. After all, no one knows your pets as well as you do! Strays are held for 5 business days before being moved to adoption. Ultimately, our goal is to reunite as many lost pets with their owners as possible. We appreciate your assistance and understanding in this matter.

Summer hours are currently in effect. The Shelter will be open 8:00 am until 4:00 pm on Saturdays. All messages left for the animal shelter staff may not be returned until Monday.

Adopting a friend

The staff at our shelter strive to find excellent new families for the many homeless cats and dogs that find their way to our shelter. Not all animals entering our shelter have perfect behaviour or manners. The majority of the pets we place up for adoption have no known history. We can only assess them by the behaviour we see during their stay at our facility. For this reason, we must assess all potential adopters for suitability for the cat or dog in question. We desperately want these animals to have a home that can provide the love and stability they deserve the second time around. We hope the general public will recognize and understand our plight, and appreciate our efforts to help these animals to the best of our abilities. Please feel free to contact our toll free number, 1-800-898-8606, extension 1, then extension 2, if you see a pet you are interested in. We would be more than happy to discuss their personality and needs with any potential new family!

OUR FEATURED PETS...

CAPTAIN JACK-currently in foster care and waiting for his furever home since June 2013. This is what foster mom has to say about Captain Jack: Captain is a large cat and a total snuggle-bug! He gets along well with other cats and loves to play with his foster brother Walter. He loves toys, treats and snuggling up in a warm lap. He is super easy to handle for brushing, nail trims, etc and is always up for a belly rub. A real character he'll keep you well entertained!

ROMIYO-is definitely a love bug who lives up to his name. He would prefer a home without other dogs.

HELP US SAVE MANY LIVES!

We are always looking for volunteers at the shelter to walk and socialize dogs, socialize cats, drive animals to appointments and adoption events, and promote the animals up for adoption. E-MAIL US AT: info@friendsofgac.com for more information about volunteering.

THE 2014 MUNICIPAL TAGS ARE NOW AVAILABLE >

We would like to let everyone know the 2014 Municipal License tags are available for purchase for Whitchurch/Stouffville, Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Georgina. Anyone who has questions or requires information on where they can be purchased may contact Animal Control at 1-800-898-8606. The money collected through the purchase of municipal licensing is used to pay for the animal services for your area and the cost to keep the shelter open. The municipal law requires the licence to be purchased before February 28th. Failure to purchase by this date can result in a $130 fine per pet! If you have not purchased your 2014 licence, please do so as soon as possible to avoid being fined.

DONATIONS GRACIOUSLY ACCEPTED!!!
Wish you could make a difference but don't know how? We accept donations from private citizens and/or businesses, such as dog & cat food (canned and dry), cat litter, old blankets, sheets or towels, pet toys, new or gently used leashes and collars, basic medical supplies (such as bandage material, rubbing alcohol, antibiotic ointments etc.), new or gently used travel carriers or crates (all sizes), and kitten milk supplement.
Still want to do more? Cash donations are used towards medical bills for the animals. The more we have, the more we can make a difference! Why not try a fundraiser at the office, with proceeds to be donated to our animal shelter! It could make all the difference in the world to a dog or cat in need!

For Your Info!

We have implemented a new program in which all adult dogs and cats will be vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered before entering their new homes. Our adoption fee for dogs is $250 +tax and cats are $150 +tax. A license is required for adopters in our municipalities.

Puppies and kittens will be adopted at full cost and we will provide a future date for vaccines, microchip and spay or neuter.

We are desperately seeking foster homes for pregnant, lactating mothers and orphan kittens. If you are interested, please contact the shelter. We will provide neccesary equipment and help if required.
