THE 2008 MUNICIPAL TAGS ARE NOW OVERDUE!
We would like to let everyone know the 2008 Municipal License tags are available for purchase for Whitchurch/Stouffville, Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Georgina. Anyone who has questions or requires info on where they can be purchased may contact Animal Control at 1-800-898-8606. The money collected through the purchase of municipal licensing is used to pay for the animal services for your area and cost to keep the shelter open. The municipal law requires the licence to be purchased before February 28th. Failure to purchase by this date can result in a $130 fine per pet! If you have not purchased your 2008 licence, please do so as soon as possible to avoid being fined.

DONATIONS GRACIOUSLY ACCEPTED!!!
Wish you could make a difference but don't know how? We accept donations from private citizens and/or businesses, such as dog & cat food (canned and dry), cat litter, old blankets, sheets or towels, pet toys, new or gently used leashes and collars, basic medical supplies (such as bandage material, rubbing alcohol, antibiotic ointments etc.), new or gently used travel carriers or crates (all sizes), and kitten milk supplement.
Still want to do more? Cash donations are used towards medical bills for the animals. The more we have, the more we can make a difference! Why not try a fundraiser at the office, with proceeds to be donated to our animal shelter! It could make all the difference in the world to a dog or cat in need!

For Your Info!

We have implemented a new program in which all adult dogs and cats will be vaccinated and spayed or neutered before entering their new homes. We ask for the vet fees paid by the new owner. A license is required for adopters in our municipalities.

Puppies and kittens will be adopted with a contract that the new owner will have them spayed and neutered at 6 months of age. We require a $50 down payment, which will be returned to the new owner when proof of the spay or neuter is provided to the shelter. All new owners adopting from our shelter will also receive a rebate in the mail, through P.A.W.S. of Georgina, after proof of surgery is shown.

We are desperately seeking foster homes for pregnant, lactating mothers and orphan kittens. If you are interested, please contact the shelter. We will provide neccesary equipment and help if required.

Who We Are

I AM LOST! Click to see lost pets!

Georgina Animal Control & Adoption Centre is the facility which provides shelter to all cats and dogs found running at large within the municipal borders of Georgina, East Gwillimbury, Whitchurch Stouffville and Newmarket. Animals not claimed by an owner are assessed, then placed up for adoption if deemed adoptable.

If you have lost your cat or dog, please contact our shelter immediately. We encourage people to visit the shelter, whenever possible, as verbal descriptions of lost pets may not distinguish them from other animals presently in our shelter. After all, no one knows your pets as well as you do! Strays are held for 72 business hours before moved to adoption. Ultimately, our goal is to reunite as many lost pets with their owners as possible. We appreciate your assistance and understanding in this matter

Our winter shelter hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 am till 5:30 pm and Saturday 8:00 am till 12:00 pm. Patrol hours are between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm on weekdays. After hours, leave a message and we will return your call.

Adopting a friend

The staff at our shelter strive to find excellent new families for the many homeless cats and dogs that find their way to our shelter. Not all animals entering our shelter have perfect behaviour or manners. The majority of the pets we place up for adoption have no known history. We can only assess them by the behaviour we see during their stay at our facility. For this reason, we must assess all potential adopters for suitability for the cat or dog in question. We desperately want these animals to have a home that can provide the love and stability they deserve the second time around. We hope the general public will recognize and understand our plight, and appreciate our efforts to help these animals to the best of our abilities. Please feel free to contact our toll free number, 1-800-898-8606, if you see a pet you are interested in. We would be more than happy to discuss their personality and needs with any potential new family!
