Who We Are

Protecting animals since 1949, the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is a registered charity that provides temporary shelter for more than 6,500 animals each year. The Humane Society's primary concern is ensuring the welfare of all animals, large and small, wild and domesticated. We achieve our goal by providing animal care, adoption and fostering services, public education programs and through cruelty investigations. We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Adopting a friend

Once you have decided on the animal you wish to adopt, you will be asked to fill in an application, which includes asking questions, see proof of idenity and asked for Veterinary references, particularly when you have other animals at home. This is simply to protect the health of adoption candidates and the pets you already have. Remember to ask the adoption worker any questions about housetraining, obedience taining, veterinarey care, how to deal with fleas and ticks, and anything else you can think of. Everything we do is for the best interest of the animals in our care and is aimed at giving them the possible chance of finding a permanent home.
