Our Adoptable Pet List

Who We Are

LAWS is an independent organization dedicated to promoting the well-being of all animals. It is a registered charity (#BN 11900 4893 RR0001) that survives solely on private donations, receiving no funding from any level of government. Every year the shelter staff deals with over 2500 animals. These are lost, abused, or abandoned animals which are cared for until their rightful owners can be found or they can be placed in new homes.

Adopting a friend

The unique way that LAWS is set up enables potential adopters to spend quality time with the animals before determining the best suitable match. The dogs are outdoors in large side-by-side runs where they can be viewed by the public. If you are interested in one of the dogs, the shelter staff encourage you to take that dog for a walk to get a better idea of its temperament, behaviour and level of training. We also have a large outdoor pen located away from the other dogs where you can release the dog, off-leash, to see how it will interact with you, your family, other dogs you may presently own, etc. The cats also “live in luxury”. They are in a large, open, outdoor cat-area where they can roam free (-well… almost), sit on the window sills or lounge around on the furniture. As an adopter, you are encouraged to go inside the cage, sit down and see which cat picks you! After you have made a decision on which animal will best suit your family and lifestyle you are asked to fill out a pre-adoption questionnaire. This will allow the shelter staff to ensure the match is a good one. This takes about 15 minutes to complete. If you are approved for adoption, the staff will begin the adoption paperwork which includes a contractual agreement between you and LAWS in which all conditions of the contract must be met within the specified time frame. This process will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. The animal then leaves with you, at that time, so come prepared with a dog leash or cat carrier to safely transport your animal home
