How You Can Help

Who We Are

K-911 Rescue is a registered, non-profit organization dedicated to finding forever families for dogs in need. We take in dogs of all breeds, from all circumstances, and work with them until they are adoptable. We have a no-kill policy. No Kill means that we will exhaust what ever resources we have available to help dogs over come their abusive or neglected past. We have no time limits on adoptability . Over the past four years, we have found Forever Families for over 900 dogs.

All of our dogs are adopted out as indoor house pets. The adoption fee includes first vaccinations, defleaing, deworming, spay or neuter, and microchip. Please email us for our adoption application at k911rescue@rogers.com This is the first step in our adoption process. We are NOT first come, first served. Keep in mind: We are not looking for the first home for a dog... We are looking for the BEST home for that dog! Appointments are required to meet any of our dogs.

We are an organization run entirely by a network of dedicated volunteers, and fosters. Please be patient as we work to respond to your emails as soon as we are available.

K-911 News

Changes with K-911 Rescue

We are pleased to inform you that administrative and board of director changes have taken place at K-911. Please be patient as we still have some changes in process as we work to improve our effectiveness and efficiency in finding new forever families for dogs in need.

We have recently removed all dogs that were temporarily housed at our old premises due to safety and hygienic reasons. All our dogs are now set up in a temporary foster network as we search for a parcel of land to construct a new facility.
If you want to help during these changes the best support you can give is to apply to become a foster home. The limit to the amount of dogs we can help right now is limited only by the number of foster homes we have available.

Foster Opportunities

We are always in need of foster homes for dogs coming into the care of K-911 Rescue. A foster parent commits to providing a temporary home while K-911 Rescue looks for the perfect, permanent adoptive family for the rescued dog. We can find adoptive homes for all our dogs, but sometimes it takes time. We want to find the right family. So, while we’re looking for that family for a dog in our care, we need you to care for the dog in your home.

We will pay all medical charges and food for the dog while in your care. You will be asked to provide love, and a safe home environment during this crucial transitional time.

At K-911 Rescue we will strive to make the best possible foster match with your living space and lifestyle but we are not infallible and emergencies will arise where a dog may need a special place while we find a better foster fit for them.

Nothing is more rewarding than to take in a sad, lonely, neglected, despondent dog and see him or her blossom into a loving and happy pet under your care and attention. Foster parents make it possible!!

If you are dedicated to helping a homeless dog find a home and have room in your home, life and heart; Please consider fostering

Please email us for your foster application and you will be on your way to giving a homeless dog a loving place to stay while waiting for their Forever Family.

Photo of Jonah

ADOPTED!

Meet Jonah, a 3-4 year old greyhound mix. Jonah has come a long way from the timid, shivering, guy who was too nervous to leave his foster mom's couch for over 12 hours.

Jonah is still timid around new people and will bark from a distance, but give him 5 minutes and he'll be jumping up to give you kisses in no time.

Jonah is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. He is very pack oriented and would do best in a home with other dogs.

Bring Jonah to a dog park and you are sure you get a lot of comments - this guy is fast, but once bonded with a person will come back provided there aren't too many other dogs he still hasn't sniffed yet.

A fenced yard or a rural farm area is a requirement for adopting Jonah. He is reliable off leash but is not city or street savvy. Jonah can jump a 5-6 foot chain linked fence.

Multiple visits with Jonah are required to help him form a bond with you before you can bring him home.

To enquire about Jonah or any of our other dogs looking for their Forever Family, please contact k911rescue@rogers.com or call (613) 489-0686.

All K-911 Rescues are adopted out with their first vaccinations, microchipped, defleaed, dewormed, neutered or spayed. These services are included in the adoption fee.

Happy tails profile of the month

My Christmas always comes on May 25. That’s the day a red car pulled into the K911 Rescue parking lot and a lady with a big black dog got out. Was she coming to see me? I had been transferred to K911 Rescue from another rescue where my time was nearly up. I was scared, but did my best to put on a brave, friendly face and hoped that this time my luck would change.

The big dog was very friendly and we all went for a walk together. I guess the lady wanted to see how I behaved and if I could get along with her other dog. The lady must have liked me because after our walk, she went back to her car to get a cheque for my adoption fee! I immediately jumped into her car, ready to go to my new home, and sat there making my face look as cute as I could (I’ve been told that I have “killer eyes”).

After a long car ride (where were we going?), we came to a nice house in a village with a fenced yard. The lady let me climb up on a chair in the woodstove room, and that has become my special place. Hershey was very friendly and showed me the ropes – important things like the trail through the cedar hedge and where the treats were kept. I settled right in and helped guard the house by barking at the door. We also went for walks in the Fair Grounds where we could run free – but we had to remember to come back to the whistle.

During the summer, we played outside a lot and Hershey tried to get me to join her in the doggie pool. I refused as I really don’t like getting my fur wet, but I quickly found all the cool spots on the deck. I even went to Church a few times and attended a couple of BBQ parties. I really enjoyed meeting new people. In the autumn, I started visiting the local nursing home. In February I was tested for Therapeutic Paws of Canada, aced it, and am now a registered therapy dog. I am so proud to wear my red scarf and the special tag on my leash!

Sadly, Hershey went off to Rainbow Bridge. But the nice lady got me another pal. Jazz is still pretty young but we play together well. I’m now in touch with my inner puppy.

Can you see why I consider my Christmas to be in May? Life has come such a long way since my sad and scared days in a shelter. I have a very Happy Tail!

Poem for Rescuers

There I sat, alone and afraid,
You got a call and came right to my aid.
You bundled me up with blankets and love.
And, when I needed it most, you gave me a hug.
I learned that the world was not all that scary and cold.
That sometimes there is someone to have and to hold.
You taught me what love is, you helped me to mend.
You loved me and healed me and became my first friend.
And just when I thought you'd done all you do,
There came along not one new lesson, but two.
First you said, "Sweetheart, you're ready to go.
I've done all I can, and you've learned all I know."
Then you bundled me up with a blanket and kiss.
Along came a new family, they even have kids!
They took me to their home, forever to stay.
At first I thought you sent me away.
Then that second lesson became perfectly clear.
No matter how far, you will always be near.
And so, Foster Mom, you know I've moved on.
I have a new home, with toys and a lawn.
But I'll never forget what I learned that first day.
You never really give your fosters away.
You gave me these thoughts to remember you by.
We may never meet again, and now I know why.
You'll remember I lived with you for a time.
I may not be yours, but you'll always be mine.
