We are all volunteers. We are trying to save the lives of dogs. We do not receive funding. We do not have a shelter. We foster dogs from shelters. Dogs are fostered in volunteer foster homes. Please note that dogs listed on this site are not in ONE foster home. They are fostered in a group of individual foster homes in Guelph but also in the surrounding area. Arrangements must be made before hand to meet with a particular dog. In many many instances dogs are rescued by this rescue within HOURS of being euthanized (usually by gassing.)
Who We Are
"Nickquenum" is an Native word that means "I am going home"
We are a non profit organization formed by a small group of volunteers. We do not receive any funding. We do not have paid staff. Vet bills, food, and related costs are paid for by the volunteers or donated.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to find permanent loving homes for adoptable dogs rescued from humane societies and animal shelters. In all cases these dogs would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of space. We focus on rescuing medium to large mixed breed dogs. We focus on rescuing dogs from "gassing" shelters. The method of euthanizing is by using carbon monoxide to kill.
Adopting a friend
Please send an email telling us about your situation/lifestyle, location and what specifically you would like to know about a particular dog if it is not already listed in the posting. We don't adopt dogs to famiiles with children under 5 years of age. We like adopters to have a securely fenced yard.
The process for adoption includes:
If your situation seems to be a good match for the dog you are interested in you will be asked to complete an adoption application. If that is approved you will be contacted and a time will be set up to meet the dog. All members of the family must meet the dog. If the meeting goes well and you like the dog and the dog likes you, a home visit is scheduled. The final step is the signing of the adoption agreement. There is an adoption donation that covers the cost of the dogs vet care which includes spaying/neutering.
All dogs have received vaccinations and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. When you come to pick up your new family member please bring along a collar and leash.
Please note that adoption applications are not processed on a first come first serve basis. We seek the best match possible and may consider several applications. If your application is approved you will be notified. We do not do same day adoptions. We try to answer emails and messages as promptly as possible so please be patient. For an adoption application please email: northernpassage17@yahoo.ca
Come Visit Us!
We do not have a shelter but rely on foster homes located in Guelph and surrounding area. Once your application is approved a time can be set up to meet with the foster family and dog.
