Who We Are:
"Nickquenum" is a Native word that means "I am going home"
We are a NON PROFIT rescue made up of a group of VOLUNTEERS who are trying to save the lives of dogs. We do not have paid staff and do not receive funding of any kind. We foster dogs in our homes that have come to us from shelters. Vet bills, food, and related costs are paid for by the volunteers.
Our Mission:
Our mission is to find permanent loving homes for adoptable dogs rescued from animal shelters. In all cases these dogs would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of space. Our focus is rescuing mixed breed dogs with good temperaments.
Adopting a Friend:
Because our mandate is to help dogs in shelters we regret that we do not take owner surrendered dogs. We would be happy to provide you with advice on re-homing your dog or to supply a list of rescue friendly low kill humane societies and shelters.
The Adoption Process:
You must first complete an adoption application. Please email northernpassage17@yahoo.ca to have one emailed to you. The application will be reviewed and you will be contacted only if you are a match. If approved, a meet and greet time is set up. All of our dogs are in foster homes, we do not have a shelter. All members of the family must attend as well as any canine members. If the meeting goes well a home visit is arranged. If it is a match then the adoption is finalized. A standard adoption fee and an adoption agreement are required. Adoption applications are not processed on a first come first serve basis. We may consider more than one applicant and we choose the one that is the best match for the dog. We do not do same day adoptions. We don't adopt dogs to families with children under 5 years of age.
All dogs have received vaccinations, dewormer, flea preventative, and are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. We try to answer emails and messages as promptly as possible so please be patient for most of us are working full time, have families and our own dogs to care for. Come Visit Us!
We do not have a shelter but rely on foster homes. Once your application is approved a time can be set up to meet with the foster family and dog.
