Please come to the shelter to adopt one today. Pictures will be posted soon.
Founded in 1989, we are a small group of dedicated individuals working together for the good of all animals. Since the winter of 1997, we have had a shelter to house our animals, but we still depend on our loyal foster homes to care for our dogs, and special cases like pregnant cats. We are one of the few no kill humane societies in Ontario. We do not euthanize an animal due to lack of time or space. Only when an animal's quality of life is compromised do we make the agonizing choice to euthanize. We believe every animal deserves the right to another chance at life.
We are an affiliate of the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. (OSPCA).
As the Gananoque & District Humane Society, we help animals in distress, whether they are injured, sick, abandoned or abused. We not only help domestic animals, but we also help wildlife in distress. We see that they are taken to the proper facilities to be cared for when necessary. We have one inspector and one cruelty agent who investigate reports of animal abuse or neglect. If needed, they pursue legal action and have been successful in gaining convictions. We try to re-connect lost pets with their owners. We provide healthcare to all of our animals, including vaccinations and deworming. We also try to spay and neuter, tattoo and micro chip them as funding permits.
We are not government funded and our sole means of support is through donations from the public and fund-raising events. There are many ways that you can help.
