We place all our pups and dogs through Petfinder and we appreciate the opportunity to do so. We have placed just over 850 dogs to date and we are grateful to have known each one of them.

Adopting A Friend
We tend to have mostly puppies because the adult dogs don't to live long in the northern communities we rescue from. Our pups are sweet, loving and hopeful. They have faith in the world and around them and they believe in happy endings.
Our Petfinder site is kept up-to-date and the pups tell their own stories through us.
Who We Are
Moosonee Puppy Rescue began in 2003 with the purpose of saving dogs from isolated northern Ontario communities.
There aren't any veterinary services in these areas so dogs are not spayed or neutered. They are not allowed in the house for the most part so they are free to roam and breed at will. The main method of population control is the the "dog shoot" where dogs of all ages are rounded up and shot.
It is usually the teachers and nurses who find pups that have been born under houses, left in debris or discarded by their owners. They take the dogs in until they can be sent down to us by train or plane.
We will take the adult dogs as well if they can be saved and many times the females are pregnant when they arrive into rescue care.
Dogs are not valued in the northern communties so often they face, abandonment, neglect and abuse. Still the dogs come to us full of hope and the belief that life can be a better that what they have known. They come in all breeds and truly are remarkable creatures.
There is nothing more grateful than a rescued dog.
Come Visit Us
Moosonee Puppy Rescue is located in Bracebridge, Ontario. We are not a shelter so we do not have people come to us. We work out of our house and the dogs are not in cages or runs. They either live in the house with us or in a one room cabin equipped with a wood stove, doggy doors and a fenced in area. We walk with them in the bush and there is no greater site than seventeen puppies running from behind trees, rocks and brush when they are called.
After emailing and completing a questionnaire we do a home visit and bring the available dogs with us. That way, if all criteria has been met, the dogs are seen in the environment in which they will be living and we are able to determine if a good match has been made.
