We are a not-for-profit, volunteer organization serving Southern Ontario, Canada, dedicated to rescuing unwanted, neglected or otherwise unfortunate Bichon-Frise, Maltese and small breeds and placing them into loving permanent homes.
We are NOT a shelter - when we accept a dog into our rescue it immediately becomes part of a foster family where it is loved and nurtured back to a stable physical and/or mental state and only then will it be adopted to a fully screened, loving family or individual.Our dogs are altered prior to adoption and receive basic immunizations and preventativeimmunizations as needed. We offer full disclosure of each dog's medical status and temperament assessment to potential adopters prior to adoption. Foster homes are located in the Southern Ontario area .
Adopting a friend
Interested parties will be required to complete an adoption application in advance (available via email from our contact representative listed in the dog's bio) prior to being invited to visit the foster home to meet the dog being considered. (FYI - References are requested on the application and will be tested). We do require adopters to supply documentation that their current pets are altered and up to date on immunizations as well. Adoption fees are as follows:1 & 2 yrs old - $350; 3-6 yrs - $300; 7-9 yrs - $275; 9 yrs+ $200.00).
It is highly recommended that an application be completed as soon as possible as Happy Tails Rescue makes a point to "match" the dog to the best possible forever home depending on special considerations such as:
- the dog's compatibility with other pets
- compatibility with children
- the dog's known history/experiences from the past
- special needs.
While we make every effort to work adoptions with perspective families but it is not on a first come/first serve basis....our first priority is that we will always place a dog with its new family based on the "fit" or "match" between the dog and its new environment.
