The
Adoption Center is one of only 3 dual-proposes shelters in Oklahoma.
Animal Aid took over the shelter in November 2003.
It houses both a humane rescue for dogs and cats and the city animal control
shelter.
The Adoption Center is a ?no-kill? shelter.
This means we do not euthanize to make room for new animals. The
animals in the Adoption Center are housed there until they are adopted or
transferred to another no-kill rescue in the Texoma area.
All animals adopted are given their basic shots to include rabies and are
spayed/neutered before going to their new home.
The
adoption center has 21 dog kennels and 10 cat kennels.
In jsut 6 months after taking over the shelter the adoption rate is up over
20%, owner reclaims are up over 50% and euthanize is down over 70%!
The Animal Control side of the shelter has 48 dog kennels and 12 cat kennels. The Animal Control side due to limited space do euthanize to make room for new animals brought in as strays or owner turn-ins. They keep all strays for 5 business days for owner reclaim. At the end of the 5 business days they are either moved to the Adoption Center (room permitting), sent to another rescue or euthanized. Animal Control is located in the same building as the Adoption Center. The Adoption Center handles all owner reclaims and adoptions.
