Previously, before dogs were brought into our program from Animal Welfare, they had to test negative for heartworm. In January of this year, we decided to try to save the heartworm positive dogs as well. This is not an easy task, we cannot do it without your help! It costs us around $60 for the medication necessary to treat a heartworm positive dog. We are always in need of donations to help cover this cost! Without treatment, heartworms are fatal. Also, a dog undergoing treatment has to be kept quiet for 2 months. We are always in need of foster homes to care for these dogs while they recover. Let us know if you can help us give these dogs a chance!

Summer time is out busiest season for animals, but the slowest for volunteers. Our animals get lonely and would love some visitors.. come volunteer to play with our pets!
Who We Are
The Humane Society of Stillwater operates a NO-KILL nonprofit shelter that exists on donations from the public. We house dogs and cats here until they are adopted permanently into good homes.
The Humane Society shares a building with the City Animal Welfare Division, and aids in the adoption of animals there. The City Animal Welfare Division can only hold animals for a limited time period; at the end of that period, they are euthanized. Whenever space is available, the Humane Society takes in those animals that are at risk of being euthanized.
Adopting a friend
Adopting an animal from the Humane Society of Stillwater is simple. Simply visit us during our open hours and select the best pet for you. After selecting your new best friend, we ask that you fill out a small screeing application. Once approved, we both sign the appropriate adoption papers and you are on your way.
Our standard adoption fee is $50.00. Our animals have been spayed or neutered, received all important vaccinations including rabies, reguarly dewormed and kept on heartworm prevention(dogs), and have been tested for Feline Leukemia or Heartworms. Some of our animals have a higher adoption fee and they leave a financial legacy for the other animals in our care who may need extensive medical care or more time to find a loving home. These will be listed on the pet's individual profile.
Donations
We use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.
